What’s going on everyone!
Just a quick post to announce the relaunch and rebrand of my YouTube channel.
If you want to drop by and check out my videos then please feel free, all of my old content is still available.
The rebrand will take the shape of my gamertag Sublyte rather than Josh Plays, and the relaunch comes with an additional 3 channels + a discord (https://discord.gg/r4zSfx6nGx) join if you’re interested.
Maybe you’ll enjoy them all, maybe only one or two will be up your street.
Here's a quick overview of what you can expect from each channel:
The old Josh Plays channel will now be called Substance (https://www.youtube.com/@Sub.stance) - This channel will now be focused on video game reviews and/or longer opinion piece videos instead of Let’s Play style videos.
A channel called Sublyte (https://www.youtube.com/@sublyte) has recently been launched with the focus of Minecraft videos.
Another channel called Professor Sub (https://www.youtube.com/@professor-sub) has been launched. The focus of this channel will be all things Pokemon.
And finally there is a 3rd channel called Sub Gaming (https://www.youtube.com/@sub.gaming) This channel is the “Other Stuff” channel. Anything gaming related that doesn’t fit into the other 3 channels will be found here.

Each channel will have a new video once per week (Friday - Monday)
You might be asking, why 3 new channels Josh? you could just post all these on one channel and use playlists to separate them. Well, you’re not wrong, I could do that.
However I’ve done a lot of research which I didn’t really think about with “Josh Plays”. Research on YouTube and how YouTube works and essentially I would be (and was) shooting myself in the foot by having such broad content on one channel. But I really want to make content that people enjoy and look forward to and hopefully be successful.
To that end each channel except Sub Gaming is designed to focus on a niche. This helps youtube promote that channel to the people who enjoy that specific content the most.
Having a broad range of content confuses YouTube and essentially kills your channel because YouTube will keep trying to recommend your videos to people and failing when Hardcore Minecraft players have little to no interest in Pokemon videos. YouTube will learn that your videos aren’t doing well and stop trying to recommend you.
Focusing on a Niche will let each channel be recommended constantly to the most relevant viewers.
Sub Gaming exists because I still want to play and record a bunch of different games and hopefully viewers from the other channels will make their way across.
