I am seeing people throw their Subnautica AUs into the tumblr sphere so I figured it was about time I show off my designs for my upcoming fic. I love speculative biology, and I love marine biology, and oh boy do I love my blorbos. Will be posting more, but for now I just wanna get this bit out there.

Alive, yeah. To make a long story short, I got a brain injury a few years ago and a lot has been going on. I'd make a joke about the AO3 writers curse, but it feels a little too on the nose.

You've all been very patient with me. Rest assured, I have not given up on this fic. I have been battling both illness and personal issues for the better part of the past couple of years. Here's a snack for those of you who have been waiting on an update.

I'm making my own subnautica au of sun and moon, but I want to make them more closely related to creatures in game. Any ideas? -FA
Something that I'd recommend doing is taking a little bit of time to study speculative biology. As that is essentially what the creature designers of the fauna and flora for Subnautica and S:BZ did. If you're like me, and tend to super-focus into studies on speculative and real biology, keeping in mind specific behaviors makes them feel a bit more real then the creatures in the game. Which is why it's important to take the already existing creatures and give them realistic and/or unique behaviors. Because, lets be real, deriving an animals behaviors if that animal is coded and has only a set amount of things it can do, you're options are to either make Sun and Moon as emotionally flat as the beasts in game, or make the beasts as complex as Sun and Moon.
If you're asking about species-wise, I'd say either something of the Stalker variety, Leviathan subclass, or something akin to the Warper and Cuddlefish in having been made by the Precursors. Or you could just make them an entirely new species like mermaids or something. Go wild. Go crazy. Go goofy-mode. Have fun.
