i would not hang out with this guy.
i'm sorry, but all i see is this:
starting a collection
I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
Here he is, the Aldi Cowboy
There's two commercials, if you wanna watch them XD
Can confirm to European mutuals this is an actual ad campaign Aldi’s pushing here in the States. Wonder how Lidl here will respond.
Can now confirm that I’m getting these Aldi cowboy ads more frequently now & there’s more than just two commercials
Funnily enough, Aldi was constantly struggling in Denmark, all the way from when they first established themselves there in the 70s, to when they shut down their last store a couple of years ago. Basically, there is a general stigma here in the Nordics against German supermarkets, in pretty much the same way most Europeans have against the US shopping experience.
One notable detail Aldi missed, was that Danes put a lot of national pride in fresh & locally sourced dairy; selling shelf-stable milk in Denmark is like cutting spaghetti in Italy
being sexually active as a socially awkward transfem basically means accepting everyone around you is having sex without you all the time but if you develop a kink for that its fine
@kyriathanatos
why did nobody expect me to be good at slay the spire
y'all a bunch of fake fans. Slay the Spire? Potionomics? Shadowverse? Balatro? Poker Night at the Inventory?? Triple Triad??? I feel like I stream card games all the time. card-based gameplay is a mainstay of the Demily Pyro brand!
right here!
I love cards
Morgan would say that
ive always found the way people think "you know the amount that you hate yourself creates problems for the people around you" to be useful advice to be so funny (infuriating). Oh no there is a fire I will put it out with my dry grass and small sticks and if that does not work I will simply douse it with gasoline.
lowkey i think people who say they love themselves to be even more infuriating. Like, what? You're saying that self-reflection is for the weak?
hate corporations more
Evergreen tweet:

I feel like every time this topic comes up people just don't understand that Kill la Kill is not just some "problematic fave" to me. it's not me excusing something obviously offensive just because I like it, or something. that is something I do; that's Danganronpa. but I've never pretended Danganronpa is good, and this isn't Danganronpa. Danganronpa is NOT as smart as Kill la Kill, or as full of meaning as Kill la Kill. and my enjoyment of Kill la Kill isn't motivated by nostalgia or whatever. I have no issue criticizing my darlings, there's plenty of stuff I used to like that I don't anymore because I went back and found it distasteful. hell, I'm pretty critical of the politics of the Mass Effect franchise these days and people know I used to be like a superfan of that series. but when I went back and rewatched Kill la Kill with a critical eye, I only liked it *more.* I genuinely just think Kill la Kill is a good, feminist, antifascist work. I think if you really look past its surface, if you're able not to flinch from your discomfort, there's just a lot of rich nuance and meaning to be found. I don't just excuse Kill la Kill, I *champion* it. and people just don't want to accept this.
Personally, I think Kill la Kill's feminist messaging suffers from its constant sexual humor, that said I do think that it is ultimately a very feminist work. Its a show about how clothing and the sexualization of the human body is used to oppress people, ESPECIALLY women.
Also apparently its my comfort show
Two things: the sexual humour acting as a distraction, I feel is mainly the viewer's fault, a reflection of a culture that regards erotic/pornographic to be the complete opposite of profound. Secondly, I would personally swap out "the sexualization of the human body" for compulsory heterosexuality.
I don't think KLK had much to say about sexual objectification as a tool of oppression, nor do I think it would've benefited much from doing just that, because it would in that case just have fallen into the puritanical trap of doing the whole "if you think tits busting out is hot, you don't regard women as people and you should be ashamed of yourself"-spiel. No, the way the patriarchy utilizes sex in media to justify & reinforce itself, has a lot more to do with power dynamics than with surface-level aesthetics; think of how often female love interests are portrayed as rewards for a male character being "the right kind of manly", for example.
This is also why I think critics who claim KLK's themes are undermined by the main characters being conventionally attractive anime girls, are missing the point: beauty standards are inherently arbitrary; always have been, always will be. They're not a capitalist conspiracy like I've seen some claim, and demanding this or that anime girl to look more like "normal women" isn't going to change jack shit for the better. That just reinforces this idea that there is this "correct" way to demand beauty, which we've not only seen capitalist forces exploit the heck out of, but is also yet another slippery slope into eugenics.
Getting slightly back to my original point, I think this issue is also linked with how people keep misusing the term "male gaze"; the problem was never that the pin-up girl looks into the camera sexually, but that she looks into it hetero-sexually, that the visual language flat out assumes that the spectator is always going to be a man, often a man who views women as inherently weaker. Even within those cases, I vastly prefer the "lemme suck your dick"-look to the "let's marry and reproduce"-look, since the latter is not just far more normalized, but also that out of the two, it's the one that fascists would never dare to decry as "degenerate".
Sorry for the wall of text, by the way. I just kind of get riled up whenever anyone uses the word "sexualization" to mean a bad thing, especially if it's to give off the impression of being feminist. Hopefully, you got something out of this response.
I think it's a little unfair that British food gets so much shit for being bad because it distracts from other countries that have similarly bad if not worse cuisine. No one ever talks about Dutch food but I'd argue it deserves similar amounts of mockery
Also a lot of the Nordic countries because apparently Lutheranism and Calvinism make you bad at cooking
obvious exception being that one time Finland decided to lock in with pizza-making, just to spite Silvio Berlusconi
being raised as a straight guy and then transitioning to a lesbian woman has given me a morbid fascination with certain flavors of romance media that are mainly targeted to straight women both because this type of content is something I never engaged with until very recently and because the genre expectations feel patently insane from the outside looking in. a lot of the male main characters in m/f romance, specifically romance novels, Wattpad fic, and Webtoons, are just straight up abusers. they're controlling, manipulative, violent, and sexually assault the female lead in many cases. "Dark Romance" is a massive trend on TikTok and the whole conceit of that genre is women falling in love with stalkers, bullies, serial killers, and on at least one occasion their own family members. If you already engage with this type of media none of this is surprising to you but for me it was genuinely crazymaking. people talk so much about the accessibility of internet porn damaging young men but the average dude's porn tastes consist mostly straightforward sucking and fucking with perhaps a little choking here and there - meanwhile the booktok girlies are reading shit that makes the average Brazzers scene look like a convent. I grew up being told that Twilight is a negative influence on young girls because Edward Cullen stalks Bella in the first book. Edward Cullen is TAME by the standards of m/f romance. Edward Cullen is the blunt end of a stick that the average romance reader will beg and plead for the sharp end of. learning about trends in m/f romance makes me feel like I'm hearing my coworker complain about her lazy good-for-nothing husband who won't change a diaper or cook dinner and when I suggest she divorce him she acts like I'M the crazy one in this situation. Like I'm into BDSM so psychologically I can understand the appeal of this stuff but even WITH that knowledge it's shocking like what are we doing to our beautiful queens????

Sometimes you get a brief glimpse into the American worldview and decide that you don't want to know.
I cannot stress enough that this meme is entirely literal. there's no reference or subtext you don't know. these are simply the objectively most popular works of art from each denomination.
i keep seeing this one and it really blows my mind that people apparently think "american evangelical" and "protestant" are synonymous
because. um.
you are not telling me that VeggieTales, a series I have never seen discussed except by Americans, is more universally well-known than fucking Narnia.
(or william blake. or rembrandt. or holbein. or a christmas carol, which is at least as anglican in its understanding of the world as twilight is mormon.)
Not to mention how, as someone from the Nordics, arguably the most protestant region on the planet, it's pretty insulting to learn OP genuinely believes nothing we've made has been of more significance than some kids cartoon none of us have ever heard of
I feel like every year the girl names get more boyish like what do you mean you are a teenage girl named Ian??
And this leads to an escalation on the boy name front where like, once upon a time shit like Hunter was something parents in the Bush era made up to reassure ppl there was no fag shit going on with their kids and now the most famous trans woman in country is named Hunter so p soon we are gonna need to call the boys shit like Blade and Laser
I'm gonna be teaching in 2030 and all the girls are going to be named Arnold and Connor and all the boys are gonna be named Gun
sorry but gun is already a girl’s name
and all of them live in Sweden, because that's already a common girl's name here
How to Write Yuri in Five Steps
Watch an episode of Hannibal
Think "this dynamic would be more interesting with women"
Read josei manga until you begin to feel your masculine-centered value system melt away
Stare at park benches and rewilded landscapes until you can imagine the lives of the women who once inhabited them
Write about whatever interests you
Hey! If you you genuinely think Hannibal would've been better with women, then I cannot recommend the cyberpunk visual novel of the Devil enough.
Immerse yourself in neon, smoke, and high-stakes legal gambles as a Defense Attorney with uniquely Killer insights in this episodic, diaboli
If you for some reason cannot buy/play this game, there is an excellent VOD series by the one and only @demilypyro, fully voice acted by her and her friends
