The almost smug look Kamui had made the young girl’s stomach twist uncomfortably. Unable to tell if it was the nerves from being offered a position, the other’s good looks or just the fact that she didn’t know him, Himei simply brushed the feelings aside.
His statement about her quirk being under appreciated did cause her heart to leap into her throat, the young girl simply shocked to finally hear someone say it. Mouth simply agape in surprise, Himei began to flounder as she tried to process everything that was happening.
It almost seemed too good to be true…. Tucking the card into the pocket of her skirt, the teal-haired girl beamed up at him once again.
❝Really? I…I don’t know what to say…Thank you and I really hope I don’t disappoint!❞
{ Ω }―
Ah, bullseye. Kamui could tell that he had said just the right things, based on her reaction - hell, the girl seemed to be close to tearing up at this simple compliment alone. Of course he had been expecting this as well, his entire plan relying on the lack of recognition she had been living with so far. But, once again, seeing himself being correct in his deductions was always a pleasure.
Laughing softly, the sound far more amicable than the sentiment behind it, Kamui brought up one hand to rest atop of Himei’s shoulder, giving it just the tiniest squeeze.
❝I highly doubt you could disappoint me. I’ve seen that you are just the person I’m looking for, after all... Have more confidence in yourself, Sueoka-san.❞
With a last encouraging nod, Kamui pulled away again, keeping the false smile on his face a little longer before suddenly mimicking an expression of surprise. Patting down his jacket, as if searching for something, he then swiftly procured a mobile phone from one of his pockets, another laugh following as he showed it to the girl.
❝And I just realised, I have no means of contacting you for your interview yet! Would you do me the honour?❞

{ Ω }―
With a disdainful glance at the dark sky above him, Kamui picked up his pace, each step echoing through the otherwise silent night, uncomfortably loud. He really hated having to be out at this time of the day, preferring to do his job while the sun was still up. Sure, he had been able to fully charge himself over the past few days... but still, he really didn’t like that this meeting had to be at night.
For a moment he was tempted to activate his quirk, just enough to illuminate those godforsaken alleys properly, but in the end decided against it. He really didn’t feel like drawing any unnecessary attention to himself, so the streetlamps would have to do for now. At the very least he should be reaching his destination in a few minutes.
Or at least that had been the plan. Fact was, that the man found himself stopping in his tracks as a figure entered his field of vision, obscured by the shadows which seemed even darker beyond the lamplight. He couldn’t say what it was about them that made him stop, seeing how usually he would have simply ignored them and continued on his way, hardly even sparing them a glance. But, something about their posture and attire told him that they weren’t the ordinary citizen out at night for a late stroll. And clearly, they had just noticed his presence, too.
The last thing he needed right now was some small-time hero, hoping to rake in some prestige by apprehending him. Or, even worse, some lowlife thief stupid enough to try and mug him. Motionless, he simply observed the stranger in silence, not even trying to hide the glare on his face. The message was clear; mess with him and they’d regret it.

Her eyes had been busy studying his face, digging into the recesses of her memory as she attempted put a name to his face. Nothing was coming up…so who was he?
Her question had been promptly answered when he held out the card, her gaze now looking down to the neat font stating his Pro Hero name. Apollo…Like the god? Interesting, but she couldn’t even remember a hero named such. Must be an underground hero or a newly debuted one.
The statements and reasoning behind him approaching her had sent a blush to her face, the young student really not having expected to be contacted. She thought she had done so poorly during the festival….Looks like at least one person had kept an eye on her.
❝Ah…..Well…❞
Looking back down to the card, she finally reached out and took it with a small bow before beaming up at her potential employer. What a turn around from today’s events!
❝Thank you so much for this opportunity. I was getting worried that I had done so terribly at the festival that no one would contact me…I appreciate you taking the time to speak with me Nikkou-san.❞
{ Ω }―
What a credulous young girl his target was this time. Kamui wasn’t complaining - after all, her naivete did make things so much easier for him, yet at the same time, there was a flicker of mockery in his eyes when Himei smiled at him, taking the card.
The fact, that people tended to abandon any common sense and healthy mistrust as soon as soon as they believed another to be a Pro Hero was nothing new to the young man. He had seen that many times before - and he had used it to his advantage just as often. But somehow, he had expected someone who was on the run like Katherine apparently was, to be more wary of strangers.
Regaining control of his expression again, Kamui laughed amicably, raising his hands in an allaying fashion upon her concerns.
❝Why, not at all! In my humble opinion, I believe that quirks such as yours are being greatly undervalued by most agencies out there - and even more so by the media.❞
This statement was no lie. Kamui indeed believed that most of those who pompously called themselves heroes did underestimate quirks which weren’t based around brute strength. Of course that didn’t mean, that most quirks out there weren’t utter trash... but still, he firmly believed that the quality of a quirk had nothing to do with it’s type.
❝I believe you would be a great addition to my team.❞
CHARACTER INFO SHEET
two headcanons you have for your character that you never told anyone:
Thanks to his quirk, Kamui’s body temperature is actually several degrees higher than that of most other humans, making him very warm to the touch. Thanks to that, he also is less likely to get sick from simpler things such as colds.
As long as he is fully charged, Kamui has great difficulties to fall asleep or sleep for longer periods. Since he doesn’t need to rest as long as he gets the necessary sunlight to power himself, it does make him very prone to getting bored, seeing how he is running out of things to do rather quickly.
three things your character likes doing in their free time:
Reading for sure. While he enjoys novels, though, Kamui prefers to read non-fiction in his downtime. He isn’t particularly picky what they are about, either; as long as it provides him with some sort of interesting information, he will read it.
Gaming. Whether he is playing video games, card games or tabletop games, he always enjoys and values them as tools to pass time with - especially at night. While, once more, he isn’t all that particular about what games he plays, his preferred genre is strategy games.
seven people that your character loves/likes:
Himself.
That’s literally it so far.
And good luck with any attempts to change that.
two things your character regrets:
Not finishing his medical studies. Even if he would have been unlikely to work as a doctor after it, it did give him something to do and was one of the easiest ways to get access to more information in that department.
He’s not really one to regret much, seeing how he considers himself to be unerring. There’s a few times where he regretted accepting certain jobs or casting away certain people that could have been of use later, but nothing he’d lose any sleep over - metaphorically speaking.
two phobias your character has:
Claustrophobia. It’s nothing too bad, but the idea of being locked in a small enclosed space of any kind does make him anxious. In the actual situation, he will be likely to get panicked, restricting his rational thinking and making it all the worse for him.
Acrophobia. Heights make him uncomfortable and distract him greatly in most situations. He can deal with being in high buildings or balconies without much trouble, but will definitely avoid stepping too close to the railings or looking out of the windows too much.

Leaning back in his chair, the rich leather upholstery groaning softly under his weight, Mark’s sharp calculating eyes drifted over the image on his computer screen. Why had she cut it so short? She used to have such lovely long hair, the teal color running almost all the way down to her waist but now it was short. An attempt at concealing her identity more than likely.
Just the other day he had finally managed to break into the Japanese embassy’s building, acquiring some much needed intel. It didn’t take long before he had managed to use his spoils, gaining access to official Japanese government documents and picked his daughter out of the crowd. She was unmistakeable, almost a spitting image of her mother. Upon finding her educational records and seeing just where she was attending school, he knew he had to act quickly, get her out before she was tainted by justice.
“How could you betray your father like this?”
The school day had been…less than perfect. Having almost gone passed her time limit when using her quirk, falling in the middle of the hallway and getting a mediocre mark on a math test, Himei found herself sighing heavily. At the very least she had a rather good lunch, sitting alongside a friend who proved to always keep a smile on her face.
It was when she was walking out, the sound of someone calling her name startling her, that she looked up from her feet. Her green eyes darted around, looking for the source before falling upon an unfamiliar figure. Had…she met him before? He looked fairly older than her so he wasn’t an old classmate…
“Uh…Y-Yes?”
{ Ω }―
When he had decided to intercept her directly at the academy, Kamui had expected that he would have to get rid of a cluster of annoying friends first before being able to talk with with Katherine alone. So the fact that she was apparently already on her own, seeing how none of the other students stopped along with her, was a rather pleasant surprise. The smile on his lips widened just the slightest bit.
❝Ah, I knew it was you. What wonderful timing!❞
His voice, so unusual from his normal patronizing tone, was nothing short of excited when he reached into one of the pockets of his coat, producing a business card which he now presented to her. A card which was identifying him as a man named Akari Nikkou - better known as the Pro Hero Apollo. Or, at the very least, that is what he was intending to let her believe. While his face probably was fairly well-known among the Pro Heroes which posed as her teachers, Kamui highly doubted that the teen had any clue about who he actually was. The fact alone, that she hadn’t yet attacked or screamed was a pretty solid foundation for that assumption.
❝I saw you during the U.A. Sports Festival! That’s quite a quirk you have there, if you don’t mind me saying so.❞
And for once, it wasn’t even a lie. According to what little footage he had seen of the festival and the intel he had been given for his task, her quirk was one with potential. Not that it would pose any actual threat to him, but it did have him vaguely interested. Which was a lot for his standards.
❝I’m afraid I can’t take any interns this year, so sadly I couldn’t file a nomination for you. But I really would love to employ you as a sidekick in the future!❞
His gaze flickered from the card in his hands to the girl’s face, orange eyes carefully taking in any changes in her expression and general demeanor. Was she buying the lie?
❝If possible, I would like to appoint a date for an interview with you, Sueoka-san.❞

Leaned back against the wall, arms crossed in front of his chest, Kamui was attentively scanning the crowd of students which spilled from the U.A. gates. Risky? Likely so - after all, he was wanted nationwide, his face undoubtedly known to all Pro Heroes which indulged themselves as teachers at this facility. But, truth be told... he couldn’t care less. Even if one of them should happen to exit the school along with the students, the young man was more than confident enough in his abilities to trust that he could take them on.
It was admittedly amazing just how many adolescent brats attended the academia, undoubtedly believing that one day they would be grand heroes. The thought made Kamui snort contemptuously, ocherous eyes momentarily averted from the crowd as he rolled them instead. They would all learn soon enough how powerless they actually were and how little their existence would influence the world around them. Most could be lucky if they ended up as sidekicks.
But he hadn’t come here to scorn the rabble. No... he was here for a job, his client having tasked him with finding and capturing a specific hero fledgling. A job that was simple enough for the young man, especially with the amount of information he had been given for it. Sueoka Himei, originally going by the name ‘Katherine’, attending U.A. High as part of class 1-C, having a shapeshifting quirk based on the fears of those around her... Kamui had memorized it all and prepared himself accordingly. All that was left to do, was to locate the girl and take her into custody.
Returning his attention to the children, he quickly scanned the crowd again, until finally spotting a face which matched the picture he had been given by his client. Now he would only have to isolate her from the rest. Pushing himself away from the wall, Kamui began to move towards the young girl, lips pulling into an almost friendly smile as he raised one hand in a greeting, aiming to get her attention.
❝Sueoka-San!❞

{ Ω }―
The audacity this child had almost left the man speechless, jaws falling open ever-so-slightly at the stream of insults she spat at him. No one who knew of his abilities, of his power had ever dared to speak to Kamui this way. And yet, here she was, trash talking him as if he was nothing more than a small-time crook.
Kamui felt his fingers twitch, tingling with energy as the temperature around him began to rise, skin beginning to emit the faintest of glows. He could incinerate her on the spot, burn that arrogant look off her face in an instant. But he needed to preserve his energy, sadly. As satisfying as it would be to watch her burn to a crisp, leaving only a nuclear shadow behind to tell of her sorry existence, it would take him an entire day to get back the energy he’d waste on such an attack. So, this time, he’d be... merciful.

“ I’m not! I’m not trying to, it’s just… a name… ” That happens to be very important to him and also very not literal. “ I eat other things. Like food. Not the sun. ”
