And Being In at Volunteer Park Again in the Afternoon
(June 11, 1967)
Poster artist: Gary Eagle
Seattle had their first “be in” at Volunteer Park in April of 1967 (patterned after the “Human Be-In” event in San Francisco in January of that year) which was widely seen as part of the American counterculture’s “Summer of Love". It was so successful in drawing in people from all walks of life and strata of the city (not just young people but blue collar workers, suburbanites, etc) that they held a second one in June.
