Alabama woman loses unborn child after being shot, gets arrested; shooter goes free

Marshae Jones, a 27-year-old Birmingham woman, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on a manslaughter charge.

WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK.

Marshae Jones was shot in 2018 during an argument. She was 5-months pregnant at the time and the trauma ended the pregnancy. While charges were dropped against the shooter, the survivor, Marshae Jones is now being charged with manslaughter for starting the argument. Black and indigenous women are almost always the first targets of policies that attempt to steal autonomy over their own bodies from women. Marshae is clearly the victim in this situation, yet she know faces a hefty prison sentence for being shot. She is being held on a $50,000 bail. This is absolutely disgusting, and we must end both the system of cash bail and the prison industrial complex that seeks to criminalize black, brown, and working class white people at every opportunity. #SayHerName

So a friend of mine told me how yesterday his coworker died on the way to work due to speeding and crossed a red light (she was late for the third time, so I’m guessing she was trying to avoid a write up). As soon as she crossed the light she was hit on the drivers side by a semi. The messed up part is that in less than an hour her table was cleared for a new worker. In less than 4 hours they had sent out the news that they are hiring. By the end of the day the hiring manager had contacted 4 people for an interview. Moral of the story is, these jobs don’t care about your ass. They will replace you in a snap. Don’t risk or waste your life trying to go above and beyond for a job that could care less about your wellbeing.

Hello everyone! I’ve seen a couple of posts about this before, but none recently, so just a reminder!

Please use “Latine” instead of “Latinx” or “Latin@” when refering to nonbinary Latines or groups of Latines. Here are a few reasons why!

In general, we nonbinary Latines have been trying to find an alternative to the gendered -a/-o endings in many Spanish words for a long time. The -e ending is our solution that the nonbinary Latine community widely agrees on, and wants to gain traction.

Using the @ symbol merely fuses the two binary gendered endings. It isn’t inclusive of nonbinary identities.

While an X is not gendered, it also is not easy for Latines to pronounce. It is not a naturally occuring ending in our languages, and due to its placement there is no agreed upon way to pronounce it.

Additionally, the @ symbol and X endings are hard if not impossible for screenreaders to recognize. We want to make sure to keep accessibility in mind!

There are already many words in our languages that end in E. It is an ending that flows naturally and is easy for us to pronounce.

I try not to post too much of my personal life on tumblr, but this is what me, my family and especially my mom has been going through. My mom had open heart surgery that lead to major and several complications that nearly ended her life. She was in an induced coma for nearly 3 weeks (during which there were still major terrifying moments, which I witness all of them)

During this hard time, after weeks of barely any sleep, barely eating, missing work and being utterly exhausted in every way with my father by my side, I got a job offer. I had to leave my mom, my dad, during this hard time for that job. I almost didn’t take it. And I kept driving down every week on my days off to visit my mom. At this point, she was awake and recovering but slowly. She remained in the hospital for two months….with medical bills adding up.

I created a GoFundMe for her, and to help my dad with the medical bills as well. I decided to share it on here because… it’s worth a shot?

I named it “Arc Reactor Repair Fund” because we’re all marvel nerds. Family is extremely important to me, and almost losing my mother, and carrying the emotional weight of my father was hard, (my 3 siblings came down but couldn’t stay as long) but somehow, we all pulled through.

My mother is still in recovery and will be for a long time.
