(Has this been done before? Itās probably been done before. But now Iām doing it.)
so I LOVE storytelling in the sims, and I love legacy challenges because following a single family is SO fun for me and watching townie families evolve as my family goes on is just as exciting. The one thing Iām not a huge fan of is how a lot of legacy challenges set out specific traits and storylines for players to follow, when my favorite part of the sims is figuring out simsā personalities for themselves. SO.
I wrote my own challenge with a little less structure, just to allow players some more storytelling freedom (but still have some goals to chase). This is a NINE (9) generation challenge, based off of nine gems, all of which are collectable in base game.
Under the cut you can find rules and goals for all nine generations for the #family jewels legacy challenge!

RULES:
A generation is considered complete when you have completed the Simās aspiration AND the heir for the next generation is a young adult.
Each generation has POSSIBLE traits listed. You must choose traits from this list (at least one ānegativeā trait, whatever that means to you), but obviously you donāt need to select them all. When Sims have self-discovery moments through the Growing Together EP, you must decline traits that are not listed.
Each generation has multiple careers listed. You must choose a career from one of the listed careers and you MAY jump careers if you wish, but you do not need to complete all three careers.
The CATEGORY of aspiration is listed rather than a specific one. You can pick an aspiration from this category to complete, but you MUST complete at least one before you move to the next generation. You must also stay within the category if you decide to switch aspirations. (For example, a Sim that completes a Family aspiration cannot switch to a Popularity or Athletic aspiration.)
Extra goals are just for fun and to give you bonus ideas for storytelling. Many of them are associated with EPs or GPs, so if you donāt own the EP or GP in question, you donāt need to do it!
Each gem is a different color, but you donāt necessarily need to associate that color with your generation. Itās just an optional fun thing!
Optionally, you can also collect the gem of your current generation and have it displayed in your Simās home. (Every gem listed is collectable in base game, remember!)
Thereās also a list of optional goals at the end that donāt correlate to any specific generation, so you can mix and match them however you please in whatever way suits your story or gameplay.
Note that a LOT of gems have very similar meaning and I had to do a lot of loose interpretation to come up with these archetypes. Please be nice to me :(
GENERATION 1 - ALABASTER
Alabaster crystals are a form of selenite gemstone, often used spiritually to purify and cleanse. It has been used to symbolize transparency and purity; it is also considered the protective stone for children and those "innocent at heart." When meditating with alabaster, the wearer expands their ability to forgive others and themselves. Alabaster inspires positivity in the home.
As the founder of your legacy, this Sim is optimistic, innocent, and openhearted. They are dedicated to their family, and love each member with all their heart - no matter how big their family gets.
Traits: Good, Family Oriented, Cheerful, Childish, Lazy, Goofball, Generous, Cringe, Idealist Career: Education, Doctor, Culinary Aspiration: Family Extra Goals:

It is a symbol of comfort and vitality, allowing creative flow and inspiration, always with a positive spin. It's a stone of self-worth and brilliance, inviting the wearer to soak up its energy like sunlight.
Just like this generation's stone, this Sim is warm and bright. They love to make connections and value their relationships with their friends deeply, and use those friendships to fuel their art.

GENERATION 3 - EMERALD

It is known as a stone of intuition, believed to be a source of eternal life in some mythologies, and represents vitality, new beginnings, and spring. Emeralds are believed to have a soothing energy that inspires fresh vitality in the wearer. They are also thought to bring focus to a workplace - they really put a "spring" in your step!

GENERATION 4 - RUBY
With its vivid, bloodred color, the ruby is a striking stone that is highly sought after. It was once believed to be drops of Mother Earth's blood, or sapphires that had been left in the ground for long enough. Its red color invokes images of love, sensuality and passion, but the ruby has also been associated with wealth and prosperity; the stone featured in many ancient crowns, representing courage and luck.
The Sim of this generation is just as fiery and passionate, dedicated to love and pleasure just as much as their other interests. People are an adventure, and this Sim loves exploring them.

GENERATION 5 - SAPPHIRE
A beautiful and, in ancient times, rare stone, the deep blue sapphire has been seen for centuries as a deeply spiritual stone; it is associated with truth, chastity, and prosperity, and the stone is often called the "wisdom stone". Sapphires are thought to calm nerves, promoting mental clarity and helping with focus and concentration. Worn in a necklace, they promote wealth.
This Sim has plenty of mental clarity and focus - and they're putting that energy into their bank account. They've had their eyes on the prize from day one, and everything else can go on the back burner.
Traits: Materialistic, Frugal, Snob, Gloomy, Proper, Unflirty, Loner, Perfectionist, Bookworm, Overachiever, Romantically Reserved, Skeptical Career: Business, Salaryperson, Freelancer Aspiration: Fortune Extra Goals:

GENERATION 6 - TURQUOISE
Turquoise is a beautiful, multicolored stone that has been found in cultures dating back to prehistoric times. It is known as the stone of communication, and in some spiritual practices it is believed to enhance the ability to communicate. Turquoise encourages enthusiasm and attention to detail, attracting good fortune and prosperity, and its blue-green color represents tranquility and hope.
Communication is all this Sim is about - and spending time with those who just get them. They express all the enthusiasm of their generation's stone, eager to get to know their world and their surroundings.

Never marry; this Sim may have a committed relationship with a live-in partner, but no formal marriage.
Achieve 3+ Star Celebrity. [Get Famous EP]
GENERATION 7 - AMETHYST
Another variety of quartz, amethyst has become synonymous with its vivid purple color. Spiritually, it represents tranquility and calm. Its name derives from the Greek word amethustos, meaning sober; furthermore, in Greek mythology, it's a simple white crystal dyed purple by the tears of Dionysus, the god of wine. Overall, the stone is one of intelligence and self-control.
Maybe self-control would be good for this Sim, but they're too busy learning to think about it too much. Knowledge is power, after all, and this Sim isnāt too picky about what they learn. They might struggle with impulse, and consistency isnāt their closest friend, but maybe with all that knowledge theyāll learn something that brings them inner peace.
Traits: Genius, High Maintenance, Erratic, Loner, Jealous, Proper, Neat, Socially Awkward, Noncommittal, Practice Makes Perfect Career: Tech Guru, Politician, Civil Designer, Military Aspiration: Knowledge Extra Goals:

Max the Wellness skill. [Spa Day GP]
GENERATION 8 - HEMATITE
A common stone actually made of iron oxide, hematite was once known as "blood stone" due to its rusty red color when found naturally; however, when polished, it becomes a shiny metallic black. It is a stone of balance, believed to help refocus wearers on what matters the most to them. It is also believed to attract negative energy, and hematite rings are worn to protect its wearers by absorbing the energy directed towards them, shattering when it reaches its limit. Hematite is considered to belong to Mars, the god of war, but is actually a very fragile stone.
The Sim of this generation also needs balance... whether they're actually chasing it or not. They've got some interests that are considered a little... unusual, but it's fine, right?

GENERATION 9 - DIAMOND
Often thought to be the most valuable jewel in the world (depending on who you ask), diamonds are prized for their rarity, clarity, and invincibility - you can't put a scratch on them! They are often linked to love and commitment due to their strength, and are most commonly known today as the ubiquitous stone for an engagement ring. Diamonds are considered a "perfect" jewel and a symbol of purity, faithfulness and rarity.
As the final, Diamond generation, this Sim is (almost) literally the crowning jewel of the family. But, like the stone they represent, they're under a lot of pressure. Has it gone to their head, in one way or another?
