TACOS WITH SALSA AND CREAM
This recipe is a lot of fun, with many flavours and textures, while being a very balancing and detoxifying meal at the same time. Walnuts are well known for their omega 3s, but they are also rich in antioxidants, protein, vitamin E and minerals. Packed with so much goodness, it’s important that we digest as much of them as possible and soaking them for a short while before eating makes that achievable. Mushrooms help boost the immune system, have antibiotic properties, anti-tumour actions and are easy on digestion. Tomatoes and red peppers are especially good for the heart. They detoxify the body, purify the blood and are useful in cases of constipation.
For the meat
1 cup walnuts, soaked 1–4 hours 1⁄2 cup sundried tomatoes, soaked 1-4 hours 4 medium chestnut mushrooms, chopped and soaking with sundried tomatoes in same water for same time, 1–4 hours 1 tbsp tamari or Braggs amino acids 1 tbsp mixed seasoning (coriander/cumin/ garlic/paprika, etc)
For the salsa
2 large tomatoes, finely chopped 1⁄2 cup pineapple, finely chopped 1⁄2 red bell pepper, finely chopped 1⁄4 cup coriander/ cilantro, chopped 1 lemon, juiced 2 garlic cloves, minced For the cream 1⁄2 cup cashew cream 1 small avocado 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
For the tacos
1⁄2 the leaves from a head of iceberg lettuce
Directions
In the food processor, blitz the ‘meat’ ingredients until desired consistency (Tip: look for similar sized chunks and stop before the ingredients turn into a paste). Mix all the Salsa ingredients in a bowl. Blend the Cream ingredients in a blender until smooth. Peel the iceberg lettuce and fill each leaf with filling, topped with salsa and cream. Wrap the lettuce up like a burrito or eat it open like a taco.
major yum lunch
THANK YOU movement for modern life.
cellular cleanse is sending me amazing meals for each day.
and the yoga is incredible!
i was pretty hungry after the watermelon smoothie then yoga, but this lunch has HIT THE SPOT!
must remember this one.
For the Kale
3 packed cups kale, destalked and chopped 1 lemon, juiced 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 1 inch ginger root, grated
For the extras 1⁄2 large cucumber, chopped 1 cup butternut squash, grated 1 tomato, chopped 1⁄2 cup pumpkin seeds
Directions Mix together the kale ingredients and massage well with your hands. You will notice the kale soaking up the juices and softening. Toss with the extras, serve.
Goji and Pumpkin Seed Energy Bombs
shout Nutricentre again for these!
They provide a simple and easy snack, high in nutrients and energy, that can be eaten at any time of the day. They are especially useful if you are feeling burned out and run down, as they are packed with immune-boosting chemicals and nutrients, have buckets of bioavailable protein, minerals, and some potent herbs too.
1 heaped tablespoon coconut oil 3 handfuls of pumpkin seeds 3 handfuls of goji berries 2 Viridian Rhodiola capsules, opened up, contents added to the mixture.
The method for making these tasty treats will probably remind you of making cornflake cakes as a child.
1. Quarter fill a saucepan with water and place a heatproof glass bowl on top to create a bain marie (remember melting the chocolate for those cakes?). Add the coconut oil to the bowl. 2. Meanwhile, add the pumpkin seeds and goji berries to a food processor, and process at a medium speed to get a coarsely ground texture. pen the rhodiola capsules and add powder to the mix. stir well. 3. Begin to melt the coconut oil in the bain marie. Once melted, add to the processed goji berries and pumpkin seeds, and mix thoroughly. This will give a sticky but firm mixture. Roll into bite-sized balls, place onto a plate, and refrigerate until firm.
cool article on Ways to beat the bloat - shout out NutriCentre!
Reducing gas
Activated Charcoal- contributes to reducing excessive flatulence after eating. Taken after each meal, charcoal is able to absorb hundreds times its own weight in toxins.
Peppermint– has an anti-spasmodic and calming effect. This helps with any gas that may be present in your gut to escape, leaving you less bloated. Try drinking a peppermint tea as a tasty alternative to your usual tea!
Drink your food and chew your soup! Chew food a minimum of 30 times! This should be mixed with enough saliva for you to almost drink it! Chewing enough not only stimulates the secretion of digestive juices needed for proper digestion. It also ensures that your food is properly mixed with saliva and is swallowed with less gas. Unbroken down food in the gut leads to many problems. One of which is gas! Liquids foods such as soups and smoothies should also be chewed. If you do not chew it, then your body will not produce adequate enzymes!
Drink 30 minutes before each meal- ensuring good hydration will allow your body to make sufficient Hydrochloric acid. The 30 minute gap will make sure that there is no water in your stomach to dilute the Hydrochloric acid. Avoid drinking water with or immediately after a meal as this will dilute the hydrochloric acid and make digestion less efficient.
Lactase enzyme- if you are intolerant to the milk sugar lactose, then the consequences will be excess gas and bloating. Adding a lactase enzyme may be necessary for those who struggle with this milk sugar.
Live Cultures– the micro-organisms in our gut play an important role. They especially help with the digestion of lactose. Try taking a daily culture supplement such as Symprove to ensure you have enough in your gut.
Get screened- if you constantly suffer from excess gas, ask you GP or natural health practitioner to screen you for food intolerances and other gut related disorders.
Maintaining regularity
Ensuring that you are visiting the toilet regularly will go a long way in helping to reduce bloating. The backlog of faeces in your gut will putrefy, not only making you feel full and uncomfortable, but also producing bad smelling gas. The minimum amount we should be visiting the toilet is once a day, but preferably 3 times per day.
Exercise- getting your body moving also gets your bowels moving. Exercising helps to move any trapped gas along on its way and tighten up stomach muscles, which help with abdominal extension.
Hydrate- making sure that you are drinking plenty of hydrating liquids such as water, coconut water and fruit or herbal teas. This will ensure that stools soft and easy to pass.
Oats! Including oats in your diet provides you with fibre and an increase in faecal bulk. Having extra faecal bulk will aid in regular illumination. Make sure that you are consuming 7-9 portions of vegetables and fruit too! Try porridge for breakfast with flax seeds and berries!
Relax!- constipation is a common phenomenon among the stressed! When cortisol and adrenaline is released, our body diverts its resources into your brain and muscles, leaving your digestive system neglected. Make sure that you always eat in a relaxed state, and try to decrease your life stressors!
Reducing water retention
Another reason why people feel bloated is due to water retention. Retaining water, especially around your belly is not only uncomfortable but unsightly.
Cut out salt-salt is your worst enemy for water retention! It is completely unnecessary to be added into foods! We need our water to be inside our cells for hydration, and consuming a high salt diet draws water out of your cells and into your tissues. A certain degree of salt is needed; however no more than what is naturally found in foods.
Dandelion tea- Switch your usual beverage for dandelion tea. It makes a delicious brew especially just before your menstrual cycle!
Leaks, garlic and onions! Often water retention is due to hormonal issues. Ensuring that your liver is working efficiently will ensure the correct metabolism and detoxification of hormones. Leaks, garlic and onions are sulphur containing foods. Sulphur is required by the liver for the detoxification process.
Sugar is connected with a myriad of long-term health consequences. Experts have finally caught up and are now calling sugar a poison. Sugar feeds the unfriendly bacteria in your gut, malnourishing you.
Day 5
SO i wake up at 9am after 4 hours sleep. Tired, headache, basically like a hangover, without the booze. But working so late will do that, i can’t blame the white stuff even though i want to.
I am at a friends, so i shower and jump in the car, eating some nuts until i get home....where finally i am in control of what i eat again.
I am a bit out of sync, but i’m starting the Cellular Cleanse, with very handy emails being sent with amazing yoga classes and recipes.
I make a green smoothie:
3 big handfuls spinach 1⁄2 mango, peeled and chopped 3 kiwi fruits, peeled 2 celery stalks, chopped.
Its super yummy.
Its my fiances only day off and he wants to go out for food to our favourite Japanese resturant. I am torn. I love Japanese food, but i planned to stick exactly to this Cellular business...
I choose miso and seabass. Sorry world. I’m deliriously tired and this is still good food!
Come home to a box of chocolates left to me by some friends that stayed over. WHY? Why would they be so kind/evil?!
The salad i was meant to make, according to the cellular do-dar for lunch was:
2 cups mixed sprouts 2 packed cups watercress leaves 1 medium carrot, grated 1⁄2 cup sunflower seeds
I’d gone and bought BRUSSELL SPROUTS cos i’m a fool!
SO i made a salad and still the dressing was good:
1⁄4 cup extra virgin olive oil 1 tbsp tahini 1 lemon, juiced 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 2 garlic cloves, minced 1⁄4 tsp paprika Optional: 1 tsp basil and oregano
Then i merged it with the evening meal, and the avocado fries in the dehydrator + salsa were a surprising success! To both of us!
For the avocado fries 1 large (or 2 small) avocado 1⁄4 cup flaxseed, ground 1 tbsp nutritional yeast 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp oregano
For the salsa 2 large tomatoes, finely chopped 1⁄4–1⁄2 red onion, finely chopped 1 mango, peeled, finely chopped 1⁄2 cup fresh coriander, chopped 1⁄2 red bell pepper, deseeded and chopped 1 lemon, juiced 1 pinch of cayenne 2 garlic cloves, minced
NOT BAD!
Now i’m doing all the homework associated with the cleanse. If you’re interested you can do it as part of the 14 day trial on Movement For Modern Life, its really clear and well done, even for a fool like me!
PS I am very passionately NOT using the word diet throughout any of this. Cleanse and RESTART.
Day 4
OK, so day 4 was always gonna be a problem. It was the day of the club.
early start/dashing around/driving/no time to cook or plan/awake til 5am
I did the best i could.
Banana, satsuma, almonds/cashews and brazils in the car as i drove.
lots of water.
I pick up my friend Jono on the way and hes bought car snacks.
MY HEART MELTS> first major hurdle.
If i were a heroin addict, Jono would be my go-to drug-buddy. Except our crack is sugar. And we relish in each others equal fucked up addiction.
SO i haven’t really told him i’m trying to go sugar free (we’ve tried it before together and made a comedy week of it before an ott binge-fest afterwards.)
He gets in the car with cans of coke, doritos, reeces chocolate and toblerone.
if it was a week ago i’d have got stuck in with him, high off our tits on sugar and screamed/sung/talked crap, then crashed + eaten more.
But watching That Sugar Film actually really affected me. And the world is currently fucked up and i just want to be the healthiest best me i can for my friends and family and self. I’m better for them if i’m better to me. #hippy
Needless to say, the day wasn’t perfect. But i had a brocolli/peanut salad from tesco and added hummous and avocado, so i made the best i could from an ‘away from home’ meal.
Staying awake til 5am was a challenge without sugar. I just drank water in the club, where i’d usually have coke or juice.
I chewed gum as i was super aware that i might be having sugar-free-breath issues, does gum count as sugar?!
such beautiful colours.
i want my life to be like this!!!!
Day 3
Carrot + cucumber + ginger juice
Forts cafe margate lunch time:
Soy Chai Latte (my fave!) well my fave is with almond milk, but sadly not an option yet....hintttt forts!
Sour dough toast with avocado, smoked almonds and a poached egg
and a pink kentish apple juice
YUM!
also i got to squeeze my little friend Hunter! hes a dream.
now i’m making Sauerkraut, because tomorrow i’m starting Movement for Modern Life’s 7 Day Cellular Renewal Challenge.
The ingredients are:
1 red cabbage 1 white cabbage 2 large carrots 6 lemons, juiced ½ cup extra virgin olive oil ½ cup apple cider vinegar
I’ll let you know how i get on!
And for dinner tonight (the last before i am emailed and told what to eat for a week, which i’ve stocked up for!) i made:
artichoke and pumkin fried with garlic, basil, salt and pepper
a massive colourful salad (thanks to the windmill community gardens thanet for the amazing veg box!
and some veggie sausages from vegideli
We’ll see what the hard working boys working at my house think of dinner tonight....!
Day 2
i’m writing this a day later and can’t remember everything i ate, but it was NOT perfect. :(
i made great porridge and a carrot and ginger juice in the morning.
cooked a pumpin and veggie curry for lunch,
we had a gig, that had a bbq, the veggie option was gooood: sweet potato mash, paprika smoked sweetcorn, veggies with a massive blob of sour cream and yummy chilli coleslaw.
it felt naughty + sweer, but who knows what was added??
i feel like i generally avoided sugar though. even at the gig, with sweets and fizzy pop on the rider....go me!
feeling addicted to these today, just ate 4 in a row.
then read the back////// they have sugar in bbz.
fml.
:(

buzzzzinnnnn off me tits....
Day 1
Monday November 16th 2015
For the last few years now, every summer I get reaaallllly busy.
Since May I have had a festival or club gig every weekend (sometimes up to 4 a weekend.) This involved ALOT of shit service station and plane food and even more beers.
My body is now like ‘wtf bitch what's your problem with me?’
I'm trying to win her back by being nice, but I fear, after reading the guardian article i just posted, that cold turkey is coming...it’s the only way....
Today was ok.
7am I woke up and made a carrot, beetroot and ginger juice (big up the garden gate project in margate for the dream veg box - muddy, just the way i like it!)
12 i made a massive veggie casserole, again from the box of treats: squash, potato, onion, garlic, coriander, more beet, i added chick pea, tinned tomatoes, sweetcorn and herbs, it was yummy and hearty.
i rode along the beach to the station, and did my emails on the train whilst eating some cashew nuts.
4pm i avoided eye contact with the free sweets in shoreditch house, and ate a satsuma and a nakd cashew cookie bar.
7pm i did 2 hours of intense yoga
9pm i drank some miso soup and collapsed into bed
I feel tired and a bit head achey. I suppose the gimmick of day 1 is making it ok, i still really enjoyed what i ate. i would just normally eat like this, but alongside sugary snacks.
I’m afraid of going cold turkey. I have been a sugar addict since childhood. Oh shit, that’s 34 years of sweet stuff. Sorry anyone who knows me for what is to come...
