It's my 16 year anniversary on Tumblr 🥳
I feel a song comin on
its crazy how teeth problems can fucking kill you and not only are dental services not free they cost a ludicrous amount and require an entirely different type of insurance than the rest of ur body. aside from the eyes, of course, which need a third type of insurance. What are we even doing man
So obviously the major thing of this being a problem vis a vis TEETH is capitalism
but dentistry is seen as a separate discipline from other parts of medicine because of a beef between early dentists and early surgeons during the period of the professionalization of medicine and thus they ended up forming separate organizations. And it was specifically the professionalization of surgery since dentistry was very much the domain of a barber surgeon.
which, if you look into the history of medical specialization, we could have also ended up with needing different insurance for 'stones' if you look at Hippocrates writings on the subject.
Just thought I'd let you know two of your books are on display at my college library right now. pretty cool to know of you from "way down we go" and then see a published original in the wild!!
that’s so cool!! Feel free to send a picture 👀
