ㅤㅤㅤIt was his usual route from his apartment to his bar, the day was quite pleasant for a change – warm and sunny. But there was something out of the ordinary today. It wasn't often he saw some shady-looking guy following a young, unsuspecting woman. It was subtle, but his senses were trained to notice such things (even though he had been out of the military and bounty-hunting business for many years now). he caught up with the woman and said quietly, only for her to hear, "You’re being followed, pretend you know me." Aidan hoped she wouldn't freak out and would do as he told her, and luckily she did.

ㅤㅤㅤHis lips curved in a warm, happy smile – one he would give his closest friends. "Hi! Yeah, came back just this morning. It is so great to run into you!" He went in for a friendly hug to sell it and to get closer to her ear. "I own a bar right around the corner, we can go there to lose him, it has a backdoor to an alley," he whispered while still hugging her, but being ready to step back whenever she would.

This was the first time in a long time that Endora had felt safe enough to fall into a deep sleep. Since sharing a bed with Darius it had always been warm and she'd known that she wasn't alone and now that he was her husband nothing they did was frowned upon. He was hers and she was his and no one could do anything about it.

There had been moments when she had been alone that she had started on portraits of Darius but those had all been from her memory. A pretty good memory, the amount of time she spent with the man it was impossible for her to not have every inch of him memorised by now. but now, drawing with him in the bed was new in their relationship, she had given him everything but sharing her art was still quite personal.

Her jaw dropped open slightly when he admitted how long her had been awake and she allowed herself to be pulled into his arms, her head resting on the man's chest as he looked over her work. "That long? You should have said something." Though she may have retreated back into herself if he had. "Now. It looks good now. When I'm done with it it will be perfect."

ㅤㅤㅤ"And ruin the moment? No, thank you." Another chuckle fell from his lips. "I loved that determination and focus on your face. Didn't want to interrupt you." If he could also see her eyes from his position while he was pretending to be still asleep, he was sure he would see a spark of joy in them. It was clear she loved to draw and he didn't want to disturb her.

ㅤㅤㅤA small, pleased hum came from the back of his throat feeling her make herself more comfortable and rest her head on his chest. Endora was so small, so delicate compared to him, and everything about her was so soft - her skin, her touch, her lips, and her words. He thought he couldn't be even more in love with her than he already was, but everything she did proved him wrong. "I have no doubt." He turned his head to place a kiss on her forehead, his attention was solely on Endora now, the sketchbook still in his hand though. "It will be perfect, just like you." Disgustingly sweet and truly banal, but he couldn't help himself. She was perfect. "I love you, my wife," Darius whispered. He was sure he would never be tired of saying that.

It felt strange to Endora that whilst a war waged outside their doorsteps for her home, that she got to spend these last couple of weeks in newly married bliss. It may have not been how she’d always dreamed she’d fall in love but she was falling and every day her new husband made it easier to fall in love with him. She’d woken earlier than him that morning and watching him sleep something had come over her. He looked so peaceful and she’d needed to capture that. Her sketch book was always in her bedside drawer and so quietly it had come out.

So absorbed in what she was doing Endora didn’t notice how much time had passed until she glanced over to see the man awake, seemingly watching her the way she had been watching him. “Good morning. How long have you been awake?” Her voice soft as she smiled down at the man. Moving to close her sketch book she had to stop when he seemed to take it playfully from her and it took everything in her not to cringe. “It’s not finished yet. Really it’s not ready for anyone’s eyes.”

ㅤㅤㅤIt might be corny, but every time Endora was by his side he slept well. She brought him inner peace even amidst war, and he always woke up with a smile on his face because he knew he would see her again. And now he had an even bigger reason to smile - they were married.

ㅤㅤㅤDarius was somewhere between sleeping and being awake when he heard the sound of graphite dancing on a paper. Slowly he opened one eye, then the other, and was met with Endora drawing something unaware of Darius being awake. His eyes fell to the sketchbook in front of her and... was that him? He couldn't hold back a smile, yet he didn't move a muscle, nor did he make any sound. He just lay there watching her sketch. A beautiful, tranquil morning amidst the chaos of a war.

ㅤㅤㅤHe looked up at the sound of her voice. "Good morning," he replied with a smile and a deep breath. "I'd say somewhere around the time of my nose," he chuckled softly and took the sketchbook out of her hands to have a closer look while his other hand slid underneath and around her pulling Endore flush against him. "I don't know what you are talking about, it looks good to me," he complimented, his blissful smile widening.

It had driven him mad with worries, the kind that was different, deeper than it should have been. They were both no strangers to fighting, Lorcan being a royal guard, but every time Viggo left for a mission, something dig deeper into his guts, a feeling of dread heavier each time. He saw the way some of the men came back and he needed to see his friend now, to see that he was still standing. "Yours shouldn't even be on you," he said through gritted teeth. It was instinct, the way he brought his hands to Viggo's face. It was gentle, caring and driven by the thought that he could have lost the man he called his friend. Lorcan wasn't a stranger to the feelings that he felt for Viggo but he had never allowed him to act on them until now. The fear of rejection was forgotten as he looked into the other man's eyes. "We heard there was some trouble and I didn't know if you'd come back." Viggo always came back and Lorcan wouldn't be surprised if his friend told him something along those lines but he wasn't in the mood for his friend's usual cockiness. "How hurt are you? I know you're injured, I can see it." Lorcan himself was used to injuries, they both were, and yet, in that moment, a part of himself was more anxious than he should have been.

ㅤㅤㅤHe expected Lorcan to come to his private quarters sooner or later, but he didn't think it would happen so soon. Apparently, the news of Viggo and his men coming back from their mission traveled quickly. Well, fine. They would spread fast since they were away for almost a week longer than expected and some men needed immediate medical attention.

ㅤㅤㅤViggo was used to Lorcan giving him an occasional lecture about being careful, but the sudden gentleness took him by surprise. He knew Lorcan always cared about his well-being, after all, they had been close friends for many years, but this time there was something more, something different, he just couldn't quite put his finger on it. "You know me. I always come back." His voice was low and his lips curved in a small smirk. He just couldn't help himself. Having powers had made him a bit more cocky than he would be if he didn't have those. Of course, he couldn't rely on them to always get him out of trouble and wasn't invincible, far from it. He bled just like everyone else, and his appearance was a great proof of that. But he always kept his thoughts as positive as possible, even if others were abandoning all hope or accepting a grim faith, Viggo believed there was still a chance things would turn out for the best (even if Viggo himself was scared for his dear life). "Nothing beyond some cuts and bruises," he replied with a small smile and took a small step back hoping Lorcan would drop it. What he said was not really a lie, but not the whole truth either, he just didn't want Lorcan to worry even more. Seeing his friend in such fear for his well-being hurt him, especially since he was back here and most likely worried sick. That's why he left out the fact he might have fractured a rib during a fall he took a few days before. "I'll take a bath and I'll be fine." He flashed another smile for good measure and started unbuckling his armor, secretly hoping he would be able to take it off without wincing in pain.

To say she felt powerless was an understatement, not that she had lost anything with the recent surge but that didn't stop the princess from not feeling it around her. It put everyone at risk, even more the guards. Her sister had been whining that it put her in danger, since her security now had to rely entirely on normal humans but Aralla saw it differently. It wasn't her that it affected but everyone else. The woman had been watching the guards train, her eyes following one of them in particular and all color left her features when she saw the sword come in contact with Vidar. "Hush," she said, tone worried. She was no healer but there were some basics she could do and she knew there was no healer in sight. "Don't move." Her tone was firm even if the princess was less used to give out orders than her sister. Now that she was by his side, there was hesitation in her movement, unsure if he would even allow her to help. "I'll let you take this off and than you'll sit and let me clean this up." It was unusual for her to talk this firmly, let alone with Vidar but her worry was too grand to restrain herself.

ㅤㅤㅤHe was ready to continue teasing whoever had also come to the healer's tent, but he quickly realized who the other person was. Princes Aralla. Vidar swiftly gathered himself and stood taller like he always did when she was around, but the sudden movement prompted a pained hiss and he instinctively hunched. He watched her close the distance between them, and now that she was in front of him Vidar could see worry painted all over her features, which surprised him. He knew she was empathetic, but to care for his well-being that much? Maybe it was nothing, but maybe she cared about him more than she cared about the other guards... Vidar shook his head ever so slightly to get that thought out of his head. It was ridiculous to even think that, because why would Vidar be any different? He wasn't special in any way.

ㅤㅤㅤTo his own surprise, Vidar nodded and carefully took his armor and shirt off. He could take care of himself on his own, but the firmness in Aralla's tone left him no choice. Besides, he had to admit, it would be easier if he let her help. He sat on a cot as instructed. "You don't need to get your hands dirty if you don't want to." He was still somewhat of a gentleman, offering her a way out.

ㅤㅤㅤAristeo didn't know if he should be happy to find out vampires did exist and that he wasn't crazy and imagining things or if he should be scared and terrified. This was the confirmation he both wished and dreaded to have. But more than anything he was hurt that his friend had kept such a secret from him. Were they even his friend?

ㅤㅤㅤ"Still not used to this..." he repeated more like a question, brows furrowed in confusion. "How long have you been..." it was difficult to say out loud. "...what you are?" Aristeo finished.

ㅤㅤㅤ"I, uh... I don't know if I can believe that, not after you kept such things from me," he slightly shook his head, avoiding looking into their eyes. He had finally started to open up to people, of course, everything would come crashing down.

Some people are born with magic in their blood, they are referred to as gifted humans and they can only do that special type of magic. For example, Vidar is not gifted, but his brother Viggo is and his power is sensory manipulation and he can only do that. Being gifted is not common, but there are more gifted humans among the royal guards than anywhere else. There was a magical surge recently that left all gifted humans without powers and nobody knows for how long.

ㅤㅤㅤEven though all gifted humans were left without powers, including his men, life didn’t stop. He still was in charge of his men, they still needed to keep themselves sharp, ready to fight whenever needed.

ㅤㅤㅤPhysically Vidar was on the training grounds practicing his sword fighting, but his mind was somewhere else. He lost focus and quickly he felt a sharp pain in his side. “Fuck,” he grunted and looked down at the now bleeding wound. “I’m so sorry, Sir! I didn’t mean to!” the young man was apologizing profusely, but Vidar waved it off. “Don’t apologize. You did good. I’m going to take a bit of a break,” he said and turned around to go to a healer’s tent, which was unfortunately empty. But it did have some medicine, bandages, and clean water. Perhaps there was a needle and a thread. It wouldn’t be the first time Vidar would have to patch himself up. He was about to take his old leather armor and his shirt off when from the corner of his eye he noticed a figure. “Hmm. Came to see me half naked?” he asked with a teasing tone, trying to take the armor off and wincing in pain.

ㅤㅤㅤSomehow Aylin had managed to get herself in way over her head. These past months were a stressful time for her family, their business was struggling and nothing was going their way. Everything in her life seemed to go wrong, so a night of unwinding was very much needed. She spent her whole evening in the tavern with her friend, it was getting late and her friend had just left, Aylin stayed behind to finish her drink, which was definitely not a smart move. Once it was empty, she got up to leave but was stopped by someone grabbing her wrist. “Where are you going, pretty damsel?” the clearly drunk man asked as he got up from his seat. Aylin managed to twist and pull her hand out of his grasp. “I am not interested, please leave me alone,” she replied with a polite smile, but as the man got closer she did a poor job of hiding her fear. “I can show you a good time if you want to,” the man smiled. With each step forward, Aylin took a step back towards the exit, until she bumped into something solid. Or someone.

She has an emotionally abusive older half-brother, but he is like that only to her and he hides it well. This time he took it too far and pushed her and she got hurt. Trying to quietly get back to her chambers y/m noticed her and insisted on helping her patch up the wound.

ㅤㅤㅤShe sat in her private chambers in silence as they tended to her wound. She hated having them here and hated them taking care of her, Madalynn could do it herself. But they saw her when she was trying to sneakily walk through the hallways with her arm hugged and bleeding. Her dress was surely ruined, especially with the cut in the sleeve.

ㅤㅤㅤ“You don’t have to do this, I can take care of myself,” she said breaking the heavy silence, but they didn’t say a word. Madalynn hated it when they talked, but she hated it even more when they were silent. She had no idea what was going on in their head. Were they thinking she was some damsel in distress? Or were they plotting revenge on whoever did this to her? She most likely would never know.

ㅤㅤㅤ“It was an accident. I was clumsy and I tripped,” she said with no emotions to fill the silence once they finished tending to her wound. It wasn’t a complete lie. She did trip, but it was because she had another of those nasty arguments with her older half-brother, he was coming at her, and there was a set of an empty knight’s armor holding a sword in his study, he pushed her, Madalynn tripped and the sword grazed her arm. “You should better go before someone sees you coming out of my chambers, they might think we slept together,” she added with her usual disgust, but it didn’t quite feel the same. Madalynn was a bit too shaken up and she couldn't find it in her to keep up the usual bickering.
