Jogging exercise made in procreate back in April 2020.

I’ve been sketching small stories every time I would come up with an idea and finally one of them came to life!

This story was originally set in Manila where a bit of rain can cause so much flooding in major roads. Classes would be suspended due to this and that’s how I got the setting. I was driving one time and passed by an elementary school. I saw kids being carried by their dad on their shoulders/backs. That’s when I started stitching together the ideas.

And two years later the short rough story in my sketchbook is now my first short film.

Character studies for Kim and Gale. I chose to name the dad Kim after a well-known weather man.

Kids would give a lot of expressions every time and as an animator they are really fun to draw.

I recreated the background with watercolor since I am more comfortable with this medium before reapplying it to Photoshop.

Storm cloud studies with watercolor. Having a lot of reference really helps. And I’m not only talking about videos and images on the internet, but also books, experiences, and observations too. Vancouver being a rainy place also helped me a lot.
