”I will braid my sadness… My grandmother said that when a woman is sad, the best thing she could do was to braid her hair; thus this way the pain will be trapped in the hair and it could not reach the rest of the body. You have to be careful that the sadness do not get into the eyes, because it would move the eyes to tears, like rain. Also it was not good to let her into our lips because it will force them to say things that are not true and either in your hands because it could make you forget about the sugar in your coffee; and that sadness is like the bitter taste. When you feel sad, girl, braid your hair; traps pain in the skein and let it escape when the north wind go away tightly.”

White men are:
31% of Americans.
66% of cops.
79% of elected prosecutors.
65% of all elected officials.
Institutional racism is a fact.
it shouldn’t hurt.. but it does.

History repeats itself and that’s just how it goes
Nothing is repeating. It just never stopped.
Wendsler Nosie Sr, councilman of the San Carlos Apache Tribe and leader of the Apache Stronghold, traveled to North Dakota to offer support and prayers to Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
Wendsler and Standing Rock chairman, David Archambault II met Saturday as two leaders and two men who understand what it means to fight for their people, their waters and their land.
The Apache Stronghold have been fighting to protect their sacred site Oak Flat in Arizona for 10 years with going on two years occupation from the foreign mining company, Rio Tinto. (www.apache-stronghold.com)

Nitáimixtsinaki, “I Braid,” is a short, wordless comic I made to illustrate and process the experiences of native girl children who have become victims of sexual assault. How do we reconcile our pain with our culture? How do we process the inter-generational trauma? How do wash away the feeling of disappointing our ancestors? It is not our fault, we are not to blame. Our bodies and minds are holy, and together, we can overcome. You are not alone.
“be stubborn about your goals but flexible about your methods.” the best advice I’ve ever received.
If the movie is about black people, use BLACK actors.
If the movie is about Native Americans, use NATIVE AMERICAN actors.
If the movie is about Chinese people, use CHINESE actors.
If the movie is about Japanese people, use JAPANESE actors.
If the movie is about Egyptians, use EGYPTIAN actors.
If the movie is about Latinos, use LATINO actors.
If the movie is about people who are biracial, use BIRACIAL actors.
If the movie is about people who are different races, use the correct races or don’t do the movie at all.
Our world is diverse, our culture is diverse and our movies should reflect that.
