ABOUT.
Name: Sunny Meadows, formerly Tristian Meadows Nicknames: None Age: Twenty-eight Date of Birth: 24th December 1994 Occupation: Stylist Romantic/sexual orientation: Panromantic/demisexual Birthplace: London, England Current Location: Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Time in New York: 7 years Face claim: Naomi Scott
Born in London, to a hippy mother and a little too sensible father, a pair who couldn’t have been more different.
Sunny was christened Tristian, a name she dumped pretty early on in life, never really feeling like it fit who she was as a person. It wouldn’t be too long before she realised there was a lot more to it than that.
She has two older step-siblings, both from her mother’s earlier marriage, who she’s pretty close to despite everything.
Sunny’s parents divorced when she was around six and so to try and take her mind off it, she threw herself into her latest love —- gymnastics. She’d always been one to pick up and drop hobbies pretty quickly, something her parents got used to over the years.
This time it was different though. It turned out she was actually pretty good and began entering competitions at a national level within a couple of years.
Time went on and she only got better, talk of her representing the country in the London 2012 Olympics beginning not long after her thirteenth birthday.
Success followed her around the world, and then, in her proudest moment, she managed to secure a bronze medal for Great Britain in women’s floor gymnastics in those very games.
At the same time, she was struggling with a lot of other things; the feelings of her childhood only becoming more prominent as she realised she didn’t feel like the right fit for her body anymore. Often she would hide away in oversized clothing and baseball caps to cover her face. Nights out were spent drinking, losing all control of her inhibitions and exploring everything about herself.
Soon after her win in London she moved onto drugs, it becoming clear now that she was trying to hide something from everyone around her, masking it with drink and drug abuse. A distraction from the truth.
A break in the cycle only came when she tripped and fell down the stairs during a night out two years later. Any future Olympic dreams were suddenly over and she quickly spiralled more out of control that she already had, the bad habits she had picked up soon taking over her entire life —- there would be no more medals in her future.
By twenty She’d chosen to move herself and her bad habits over to New York, hoping there would be opportunities there for a way out.
Within a year she had come out as nonbinary, choosing the term demi-girl, and then another year later, began to see a councillor and attend narcotics anonymous meetings.
It was difficult, she struggled constantly, often escaping out to the Hamptons... as well as to drugs again, much to everyone’s dismay.
The move into Cobble Hill, Brooklyn came shortly afterward her arrival in New York, having a cousin in that area and feeling that being close to family might help.
Sunny eventually made an effort to reinvent herself, attending college courses and making quite the name for herself as a stylist. She got a job as an intern at a fashion magazine, spent most of her time making coffee, but it helped her get to where she is today. On the side she occasionally coaches gymnastics to girls just starting out, although she’s building herself up very slowly to gain that confidence again.
She has a tendency to hide all problems behind a smile. Sunny by name, Sunny by nature. It’s something that makes it difficult for others to get close.
