Realized something and made a couple memes.

"Junk journal"

I'm sure there's a term for this kind of thing - when something that was popular 20 years ago goes through a resurgence and gets a new trendy name that is literally just a synonym to the original term - but I don't know what it is lol.

Not hating on the act itself - I fucking love a good scrapbook - but the term bothers me in a "we'll package this as something new to sell more and cheaper bullshit". In a "a scrapyard is a place you go to find or leave things that may find use in another way" and a "a junkyard is where trash is left and sometimes people pick through it but it's not expected to be useful" way.

Idk it gives me this weird sense of cherished vs trashed. Something you took time to put together and will want to revisit vs something you do to put your trash somewhere you'll never look at it again but like... just in case you want to.

It's like. Don't devalue your memories and your creative work like that!!!

Anyway I went on a very fun trip with my friends and am getting photos printed and am making a scrapbook!!

I think a big part of the reason Pokopia is hitting so hard for so many people is that we have had an absolute glut of post apocalyptic media that take the "humans are the monsters/disease/problem" angle. Even the most well meaning solar-punk I can think of often have this undercurrent of 'humanity's nature is inherently short sighted and exploitive and they must constantly be kept in check to protect the environment' which slides very quickly into 'the world would be better off without humans in it to complicate and threaten things'.

But Pokopia fully does not do that. The world is lonely without humans and lesser for humanity's absence. So much of the game is about how Pokemon miss humans and are struggling to make sense of a world without us, how the ecosystem is just as hurt by our absence as any other species, and how the things we left behind, even in ruins and burned shells, are often beautiful and strange and helpful to the Pokemon who find them.

Pokemon have always been this allegory for the natural world- back to the original idea of the games inspired by children who caught bugs and kept ant farms- and thus the relationship between Pokemon and humans becomes this allegory for the relationship between nature and humans. And Pokopia looks you dead in the eye and says "the world would be poorer without humans, and if we all vanished tomorrow the echoes of who we are and the things we did would still ring out for eons uncountable. We would be missed and mourned and searched for and the wound of our absence would be deeply felt on this earth for the rest of its turning. The actions of a few greedy short sighted humans will never change that."

And that. That hits.

Ok, mother of GOD that's a lot of responses and I am but one man with Excel. I'll update these ASAP but also some rules:

A Pokemon only counts for itself, not its evolution line.

A Pokemon with multiple forms (like Zygarde) will only be counted for the specified form. A Pokemon with multiple appearances (like Spinda, Vivillon, Sylvally, etc.) count for all their appearances.

I'm literally doing this as a testament to my own depression that not everyone is lovable, so add that to the weight of this post's meaning.

just saw Iron Lung and I can't help but notice a consistent trend within Millennial art where the core thematic take away is 'Well, we might be doomed to die in miserable failure, but at least we can help those who come after.', which probably means nothing

It's important to me to mention that Clair Obscure: Expedition 33, the game that won a bajillion awards for 2025 deservedly, literally uses the phrase "for those who come after" over and over and over again, in exactly this context. "Even if (and when) we fail, it will improve the odds for the next group, so we must do everything we can in this doomed endeavor so those who come after have a better chance of survivng." Basically.

every time i ask people if they do any new years resolutions its all ooooo i dont like making them bc i fail or ohhhhh no i couldnt keep up wiht that and then when they ask me and i tell them about Pasta Quest (i am eating as many different pasta shapes as possible in the space of a year) or when i did Fruit Adventures (every time i saw a fruit i had never eaten before id get one and eat it and read the wikipedia article about it) theyre like hang on i forgot you can make Fun Ones i want a fun one

while i actually made this post back in May, since New Year’s is approaching here’s some of my fave suggestions from the tags if you’re looking for inspiration!

other favorites from the notes I didn’t get screenshots of at the time:

learn the names/species of local plants, bugs, and birds where you live (iNaturalist or Merlin the bird app help with this)

learn the rules to 10 new card games

steal the colored paint cards from hardware store paint aisles and use them to make art

try out every different apple variety you can find and rank them

similarly LOTS of people in the notes doing soup quests, and a few cheese quests also

similarly lots of people reading/watching certain amounts of media over the year, and tracking/rating it

track the number of cats/dogs/etc you see over the year

Different potentially fucked up elf ear cultures because idk why my brain was on it:

- ear binding, to try and limit the length the ears grow to

- ear clipping, to try and affect the firmness of the ears/how straight out/back they sit

- ear stretching/end of ear weights to try and lengthen the ears

I was just thinking about this again.

why use magic to hide that you're an elf when magic could break or be seen through at any time? an actual, physical alteration is much more reliable. so there's plastic surgeons who do ear alterations - turning the most distinct physical characteristic of an elf into a trait easily overlooked.

bounty hunters are searching for an elf with this description. this person matches the description but they sure as hell aren't an elf with those rounded ears, and there's no magic applied, so we clearly have the wrong person.

but also with these elf ear cultures it only makes sense to have plastic surgeons for ear procedures, since they clearly have very specific standards for beauty when it comes to their ears.

Lately my old HadesAU art got some notifs and seeing it fiiled me with determination to do better Post 16th lesson MC got fed up with everything and decided to leave. But surprise!
