Welcome to my blog!!

I'm @sunos-official, a blog to celebrate the wonders of the BSD (and later SVR4)-based Unix from Sun Microsystems in all of its iterations (although this blog will primarily focus on versions up to and including Solaris 9, with some appearances of Solaris 10).

I'll be working on populating the queue with fun Sun Microsystems-related goodness. In the mean time, enjoy some SunOS user interfaces!!

Yea it was lol - I was looking at it the entire day and finally decided to take a closer look to see just what it was. I'm hoping to restore it and exhibit it once I get it completely fixed up and functional

I did! I would have taken a closer look at it, but it was pretty expensive and apparently had some issues, so I didn't look at it too closely

I can see why you would lol - I would like to get a tape drive for this system eventually - then it'd actually have the full compliment of SCSI devices filled out (three hard drives, an optical drive, and a tape drive)

Me, as well as @kde-plasma-official @btrfs-unofficial @catppuccin-macchiato-official and now @catppuccin-mocha-official have been working as admins on this project.

This is an extension on both my work maintaining a list of these gimmick blogs and the work of @tux-official who started a matrix room for these blogs and adjacent people.

Our current services are a @wafrn instance, a matrix server, and webmail. Various others are planned or in the works. (maybe we'll have games or smth)

Got another Sun Ultra 5 today - threw Solaris 7 on it for the time being, but I do intend for this to be my Linux testbed for SPARC Linux

Also got a keyboard and mouse with this one, which makes me very happy.

Used my IBM server running Solaris 10 (post about that here) to boot the Solaris 7 installer, which went off without a hitch. After that, I installed the recommended patch cluster and then rebooted the system.

Installed Red Hat Linux 6.2 on it, and I’m very happy with the result :3
