my name is Ingrid (she/it/they, xe/xem also acceptable), i am a biologist and an artist, but whats important here - i'm a silken windhound

A therian, alterhuman, otherkin, nonhuman, however you'd like to call it. I've known myself as a creature since early years, and labeled myself as otherkin since ~2012, but decided to make a little side blog dedicated to personal experiences in around 2023.

Please note that I sometimes use the words "sona"/"fursona" /"truesona" meaning "my dog appearance" or noemata and am okay with being called a furry!

I am an adult, but will keep this blog sfw. if anything changes i will add a special tag so you can block it! And yeah, sorry, there is no tag system in my blog because I'm old and lazy

English isn't my first language! I may phrase things weirdly but will try elaborating or paraphrasing if asked. There will also be a lot of typos that usually get fixed as I edit the post.

More people should really at least consider otherlinking to be a thing they themselves can do. The community is quiet and the tags tend to be overrun with crossposting, but I think it'd be a lot louder if people actually considered it as a genuine possibility a little more often. 'Linking is usually seen as an afterthought you tack onto the end of a list of alterhuman terms and not usually discussed too much more than that from what we can see. Which is sad because it really can be beneficial and it absolutely has a place in the broader alterhuman community.

You really want to be an animal, or your favourite character, but you know you're not? You can do that--you can just.. become them.

You have a hearttype but it feels kinda weird and it feels like you should have been that thing, but you're not? You could always 'link it if you're dysphoric about not being that thing.

You have something that was--or you thought was--a kintype, but now it's not, and you miss it? Just link it back into yourself.

You think [thing] is really cool and it'd be cool to be one? You can!

You want to incorporate an aesthetic of [thing] into your identity and it'd work best if you just became that thing? That's absolutely a thing you can do.

You think it'd be fun to identify as something other than what your body is? You can make that happen.

Being [thing] would help with something in your life? Go ahead, you can do that.

You can mold your own sense of self an identity however you see fit, and that's really cool. Honestly it comes across as a power move. You get to make your own self, no matter what came before it.

kind of weird about how so many think voluntary identity must be called otherlink to be valid.

I've always been a c'linker. I guess you could argue that I'm a 'linker in origin and currently have a "valid otherkin identity" But lets be real, I never would have used that term to begin with. I love to explore my relationship with nonhumanity and the hows and whys of this identity. But if I wasn't so keen to interrogate myself? If just went along, unknowingly implying myself as involuntary? Would anyone be able to tell? Would anyone point at my experience and go "no! you aren't allowed to be otherkin!" I don't think they would.

What I'm getting at is that I assume my behavior reads as if I was involuntary. And so my use of language and labels never gets questioned. But if I changed my posting habits and/or the words I used with no change to my actual identity, would it be called into question? If I said "chosen otherkin" instead of c'linker or just... otherkin. Would anyone throw a fit at me over it?

I can't really find it in myself to care if someone is a "chosen therian" or not. My identity is chosen and willingly developed and constructed. I talk about constructed identity and no one gives me shit for it, even though I don't actively use 'link to describe myself. Because I don't want to. It's accurate, but I don't want to.

Like I think people underestimate the power and impact and importance of a willingly constructed identity. I'm all for making sure that folks know what language is available to them, but it comes to a breaking point when someone is denied a label because someone thinks they may fit another one better.

This is old drama, quite literally a non-issue as the whole idea of chosen therians, iirc, was made up. But I saw something that made me think about how others treat this metaphorical (or not, idk if anyone actually identifies with it) user and it rubs me weird. It's also scattered and disorganized idk if I'm making sense. No main tags as the last thing I want to do is drudge this back up. But sometimes I just want to get thoughts out of me.

Feral New Year - Secret Santa Art Event

✨ Hello dear friends and welcome! ✨

Three years ago, varrawolverine and ingridskogstad (hi! that's me!), decided to host a little secret Santa art event in our friend group, featuring only feral characters. Our friends invited their friends, and their friends invited more… We got 56 participants for the first year! For the second year, 87! It was amazing to see so many animal artists get together to share joy.

This year, we've decided to expand the reach of our event to the english-speaking part of the fandom and create a telegram group for easy communication. The old vk group is still functioning as always, and participants from both messengers will be combined, so don't worry about missing out! To ease the workload on the orgs (me) with the anticipated huge number of participants, we've also decided to open the applications earlier than usual!

⭐️ Main rules ⭐️

Characters: Any feral animal or fantasy creatures, including two-legged like dinosaurs. No anthro/humanoid body plan, no human face, that's it!

Art requirement: Any skill level! But we expect a fullbody scene with a full-fledged background. SFW only.

Timeframe: November 21st - December 31st

Has any therian (or otherkind) on here struggled to accept the possibility of having more than one theriotype (or kintype)?

Because I'm currently struggling with this. I'm going trough a theriotype questioning but I feel like I'm sabotaging myself because in some way I fear being a "faker" or that being more than one animal will be "too much to handle" for me.

i'm kinda struggling with a similar thing right now.

I'm not sure if the deer feelings are just "oh i like them" with recurring cameo shifts, or if it's an actual 'type. I don't get the "OH THAT'S ME" recognition i have with sighthounds. Might still form a deer 'link though.

Making it conscious and voluntary actually eases things for me somehow...

Many alterhumans I have encountered are spiritual but not religious or athiests, and I wonder if the broader community reflects that trend. If you have a religious history (ex. I used to be Christian and now I am atheist, I was raised pagan but I converted to Judaism) I'd be interested to hear about it in the tags! :}

We think this is really cool, seeing how the alterhuman tag is very lively and full of nonhuman experiences and essays and jokes and community, but there's not nearly as much coverage of human alterhuman experiences.

And there's a ton of different ways to be human and alterhuman! Human fictionkin have been a part of this community for over a decade - check out A Timeline of the Fictionkin Community by House of Chimeras!

And human alterhumanity is not limited to fictional characters - our good friend Rani has a post listing a variety of different alterhuman labels that don't indicate nonhumanity or fictionality, and there's more in the notes!

We want to see more human alterhumans talking about themselves! We have so many wonderful, interesting things to talk about, and it's a shame that we haven't had a place to collect it all. We want to find and make community with other human alterhumans, to have a space to talk about our experiences, which are as important and impactful to us as nonhumanity is to so many others!

It's a little lonely in that tag right now, only us and a few friends posting about our identities, but we already have some good stuff in there! And we'd really love to see more people using it!
