I guess it was about time I made one of these.

Hi, you can call me Renia, or Leah. My pronouns are She/They. I’m Australian, autistic, and an aspiring author. I am largely interested in fantasy, sci-fi, history (specifically but not exclusively the history of the Jewish people in Eastern Europe, and of the Shoah) and travel.

I visited Aotearoa New Zealand in June and July of 2026, I’m currently planning my next trip, likely to South and Southeast Asia.

TV shows I’ve watched recently include: Daredevil Born Again Season Two, Black Snow Season One and World War II: From the Frontlines. Currently watching Turning Point: the Bomb and the Cold War.

Movies I’ve watched recently include: Inglorious Basterds, the King and 1917.

Right now I am reading: Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir and Gideon the Ninth, by Tamsyn Muir.

I like all kinds of music but currently I’m really into Gogol Bordello, Shakey Graves and Peter McPoland.

A Slavic Muslim, Pomak, Bride by Eylül Ezik for Vogue Italia

This photoshoot is inspired by the bridal customs of the Pomaks, a Slavic Muslim people indigenous to the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria. Although the Pomaks originated in what is now Bulgaria, successive waves of migration during the late Ottoman period, the Balkan Wars, and later ethnic tensions throughout the 20th century led many families to settle in Turkey, similar to other Eastern European Muslim communities. Today, there are an estimated 160,000 to 240,000 Pomaks in Bulgaria, while approximately 600,000 to 750,000 people of Pomak descent live in Turkey.

The portraits focus on the intricate makeup, elaborate jewelry, ceremonial henna, and richly patterned textiles that have long been central to Pomak bridal traditions. These elements are more than beautiful adornments. They reflect generations of craftsmanship, ritual, and cultural memory.

The vivid colors, geometric motifs, and layered accessories blur the line between past and present, showing how traditions that are centuries old can still feel strikingly modern. Rather than simply documenting a wedding ritual, this series celebrates the resilience of Pomak culture and the continuity of a unique Slavic Muslim heritage that has endured across borders and generations.
