Never much of a drinker and, as previous antics had revealed, a bit of a lightweight when she did get drinking, Iris swirled the contents of her glass and stared down at the liquid inside. She wasn't exactly sure what was in it, truth be told. Not in a concerning way, of course! One of her friends had passed the glass along to her earlier in the night, and she'd stared at the drink a little woefully. She was a little too scared to drink it, for fear of getting outrageously drunk and embarrassing herself somehow. Instead, she'd opted for soft drinks for the night where she could ā though, they were in very slim supply ā and whirled around the dancefloor with her friends eagerly all the same.
It was a great night in great company, and she didn't think anything could spoil it, truth be told. Until she'd joined the pixies, Iris hadn't had much chance to celebrate the New Year. Usually, she rang in the New Year with her mom, dad, and siblings, which suited her just fine. She'd never had friends before College; always picked on and teased by younger and older kids alike. Still, as much as she loved her family, it was nice having friends that she could dance the night away with. The clock was ticking now, though, and the dancefloor was slowly starting to clear, with people pairing up and pulling their friends, respective other halves, and sometimes total strangers in, eager to have someone to share a kiss with once the clock struck midnight. Iris was sure she wouldn't be kissing anybody that night, which was fine by her. She'd sweep around and plant a sweet little kiss on the cheeks of all of her friends, and she'd be quite content with that.Ā
Momentarily distracted, she barely registered a figure approaching until she felt an arm snake itself around her waist. She could see all of her friends, and her chest gave a worrisome jolt as she wondered just who was pulling her in. It didn't take long for the strangerĀ rounded on her, stepping out in front of her, a strange, tall man now blocking the rest of her friends from her view. She felt uncomfortable underneath his gaze, and hunched her shoulders uneasily. Usually so bubbly and smiley, and not at all accustomed to the attention of strangers, Iris merely stared up at him with wide, uncertain eyes.
āHey there, baby,ā he greeted her. The nickname dripped from his tongue like acid, without a hint of endearment or that soft, fluttery feeling that came with it when Isabella or Farrah said it. āYou looked all lonely over here. It seemed only right that I come and keep you company, help you enter 2018 just right.ā
Just as he said that, his arm circled her waist again, his hand sliding down the small of her back, and Iris let out a shrill cry of a horror, wriggling away from him and jumping back, out of his arm's reach. āDon't touch me! Um... please.ā
She winced at her own polite nature, her eyes trailing the floor, staring down at her feet in discomfort. She knew all of her friends were a little preoccupied, and probably hadn't noticed the strange behind them, but she glanced up despite herself, hoping to catch one of their eyes. Luckily enough, just at that exact moment, Ron stared around, smiling wide with his arm was draped lazily over Kim's shoulders. He caught Iris' eye over the man's shoulder, and she shot him a look that she hoped he understood. Please, Ron. Help me.
āI'd appreciate it if you kept your hands to yourself,ā Iris told the man, her voice small and meek. She tried to remain strong, keeping up her composure until Ron ā or someone ā caught onto what was happening.Ā
