Me trying to leave a comment on a fic I love but not knowing what to say
unpopular opinion:
people have no right to police who gets in the abortion debate.
people don't get to choose who gets a voice in a debate about human rights (and lack thereof)
if you are a human with a hearbeat, you get a place in this debate because it's not just about women or uteruses.

Modernist Christians really think Jesus said, “Pick up your cross and follow me...when it’s convenient. Otherwise, do whatever you want! I don’t care, lol. Also in about 2000 years some super special smart people are going to figure out that I ACTUALLY approve of a bunch of things the Scriptures and sacred Teachings will have always held to be grave sins, even though I’m not bothering to tell you guys about it now or even have it written down anywhere.”
I think a big problem is this general misinterpretation of what Jesus meant by telling His followers not to judge others. Not judging a fellow sinner doesn’t mean we’re supposed to just never regard anything as a sin ever and spread positivity about people engaging in sin.
Not judging means like...for example, one of the things I struggle with is gluttony. I tend to eat unhealthily and drink alcohol when I’m depressed or stressed, so I’m overweight as a result, and it’s something I go to Confession about occasionally and want to improve on. If I encountered a fat person, it would be wrong for me to call them a “fatass” or make some joke about how they should lay off the donuts. That’s judging, and being very aggressive at that; on top of it all, I’m not a healthy eater myself, so it’s a double whammy of me not removing the plank in my own eye before going out of my way to comment on it. But if they came up to me and asked me to affirm them taking a fourth serving at dinner, I couldn’t in good conscience tell them that’s a good idea by saying, “Sure, there’s no problem with that! God wants you to eat yourself sick, because eating that way makes you feel good!”
This move to spread the idea that Christianity is some positivity movement that’s all about affirming each other in our sins is dangerous. Jesus loves us, but He doesn’t want us to stay rolling around shamelessly in our sinful lifestyles once we’re saved. We all stumble and sin, and no one is perfect, but there’s a very big difference between falling and then resolving to do better once Jesus helps you back up and basking in a deep pit while reassuring yourself of the lie that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with how you’re living your life.
