Yeah, this is why diamonds are a girl's best friend. Because they can be pawned if a woman has been abandoned and needs to have money on hand to rebuild a life.
Also women get paid less than men, hence the need for something of monetary value to hold onto as well. Likewise women couldn't work for a long time either, and couldn't get a divorce without their "husband's permission". All that "let's go back to the old days where women were in the home!" nonsense isn't a fancy careless life, it was a subservient, often physically abusive trap and I am DEAD serious when I say that women often either had to die or kill to escape from it.
