GRESTIN BORDER CHECKPOINT DESTROYED
At around 1:36 PM on the 23rd of December, an armored van full of currently unidentified armed personnel drove through the inner border security, killing one guard in the process. These armed persons then shot down the remaining guard detail - a total of 3 confirmed deaths. They proceeded to place a bomb at the base of the inner border wall, destroying it.
These unidentified terrorists left shortly after the border wall was destroyed, presumably uninjured. Officials are currently in the process of identifying these individuals. Reports say there are two in total, but any information regarding their identities is inconclusive. Any information regarding these terrorists can be sent by mail or by phone to the Ministry of Information’s 12th Division Offices.
Floods of immigrants overwhelmed the border shortly after the border wall was bombed. The Ministry of Admission is in the process of deporting these immigrants to their home countries. No further information on this matter has been provided.
The events of that day replayed over and over again in his mind. The note from the messenger, instructing him to hold his fire; the alarms blaring loud and frantic; the sickening “BOOM” from just beyond his booth; all of it. His throat went dry every time he thought about it, wondering if he should’ve done something to stop them. Of course, he had done too many favors for them to go back now. He was in it for the long haul, that’s for sure. The worst part is that he chose that for himself - he wasn’t threatened nor bribed by this group to do their bidding. He chose to help them out of his own will.
Pyotr was startled out of his thoughts. He looked up from the newspaper to his wife, worry creased along her round, freckled face.
She stood there for a moment, studying his face. “You seem troubled. Are you alright?”
Pyotr swallowed. “I’m fine, love.”
He folded up the newspaper he was reading and got up from his place on the couch. It was a very nice couch. When EZIC moved his family to their new apartment on such a short notice, never did they expect a fully furnished apartment. It was definitely better than the class-8 piece of shit they dared to call home.
