No!! Do NOT boycott Amazon right now, you will be undermining the strike (explanation below).

Listen, I know your heart is in the right place but boycotts and strikes work through opposite types of economic pressuring.

In a strike, the WORKERS’ goal is to prove to the company that THEY need YOU to keep running. Without your labor, the company would be unable to function well and would lose profit due to inefficiency.

In a boycott, the CONSUMERS’ goal is to prove to the company that they are replaceable and nonessential if ‘x’ practice is continued (whether it’s in support of better working conditions for employees or advocacy against the company’s spending choices, etc).

During a boycott, the demand for labor goes DOWN, which makes labor less valuable and more costly to the company (along with other operating costs) since profit will decrease. The success of a strike requires labor to be valuable.

With that in mind, spend on Amazon as you normally would while the strike is happening. There’s plenty of time to organize a boycott later, but trying to boycott while a strike is happening will only undermine the workers’ efforts.
