The Tsukiyamas do make an effort to support small businesses they know to be run by ghouls.  Ms. Kurosawa runs a little music shop, and Kanae sees her now and then, on trips to pick up CDs or sheet music.  He’s discretely introduced himself at some point, explained who he works for and wished her good luck with the business; little formalities are so important for networking, and the Tsukiyamas like to be thorough.  It’s happened more than once, that the CCG will discover and destroy one of these little outposts of hope and the survivors will end up at the Tsukiyamas’ door looking for a job.  Is that perhaps Master Mirumo’s line of thinking? …Owning your own store sounds like more fun than Kanae’s job; he can’t help but feel sorry for these victims, feel like they’ve lost something important.

…Now this awful storm has stranded them in this same cabin, and Kanae isn’t sitting on a lot of conversation material. …Is Ms. Kurosawa even going to be friendly, in these circumstances?  Outside of the prying eyes of human society, it’s anyone’s guess what an unknown ghoul will do.  He’s been nothing but friendly to her, and he is affiliated with a very powerful family.  Perhaps Master Mirumo’s strategy was intended to cover this sort of instance, too; perhaps networking arbitrarily simply has its value, and that’s the lesson.
