Unfortunately, they do.
This is an awesome use of what is probably a master's degree if not a doctorate and I am 100% thrilled that she shared it even though it was embarrassing and she squeaked.
Thank you, adorable scientist, for making people's lives better.

This is back on my dash! And listen, I love to see Amir Khusrau getting appreciation, but this translation ignores a lot. The original rhymes! And scans! And does playful things with register! And conveys a tone of affectionate banter between the two speakers, not least because it has them both addressing each other as sakhi (translated above as âgirlâ) in the last two lines. I think taking some liberties with line order is worth it to preserve more of the restâand I think thereâs a better translation of sakhi. And so:
He only visits once a year, I splurge big on him when heâs here, His kisses make my tastebuds tango. Who, bitch, your man? Nah, bitch, a mango.
Thanks @wellpardonme for sending this to me!
Day 733
At the risk of sounding anti-intellectual, I think that college should be free and also not a requirement for employment outside of highly specialized career fields
At the risk of sounding like an effete intellectual, I do actually think you should be allowed to just take college courses indefinitely
technically you can, if you don't care about degrees.
Free Harvard courses. Free Courses from Stanford. Free Courses from MIT. Free courses from Yale. Free courses from Princeton.
Free courses on Coursera.
Free Courses on EDx Free Courses on Alison
For paid, there's The Great Courses+/Wonderium. 20$ a month for unlimited courses.
When searching, the phrases you're looking for are Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), or you can do a general search of say, "free online college courses." Oh, and so you don't get surprised like I did, have an avoid: Hillsdale College is a conservative Christian site and not a valid MOOC place. Sign up with them and you will get things like THIS IS WHY THE LEFT IS TURNING YOUR KIDS TRANS AND GAY in your inbox.

I like to think that at some point over Voyagerâs journey, Kathryn Janeway volunteered to babysit Naomi Wildman while Samantha was on shore leave. Partly out of a desire to give her crew some much needed R&R, partly out of genuine affection for Naomi, and partly out of a good old-fashioned âI always thought about having kids someday and Iâve owned dogs and managed ensigns, how hard could it be?â hubris on the captainâs part.
I also like to think this is well into Naomiâs âCaptainâs Assistantâ fixation, so when sheâs informed sheâll be spending a couple of days with Captain Janeway, she sees this as an Opportunity.
Between Naomiâs desire to be a perfect child and thus obviously excellent assistant, and Janeway skimming a few child development papers and walking away with âtalk to her like an adult, got itâ, both of them are convinced it will be just fine.
And by both of their accounts, it was. Just a small issue with the replicator but thatâs fine because everybody likes ice cream for dinner once in a while. Naomi was a Delight To Have Around, and Naomi is returned to Samantha after sharply saluting the captain and then hugging her, which makes Janeway laugh and say âat easeâ while also being a bit weepy.
But then a few days later, Sam starts getting odd reports. Neelix says that the first time they re-entered Naomiâs Flotter program, Treevis held Neelix at wooden sword point before kneeling and swearing fealty to Naomi. Naomi just grinned and said âCaptain Janeway reprogrammed him to be like a knight so I could learn the responsibility of caring for other people who depend on me! Did you know her mom WROTE FLOTTER???â
Harry approaches Sam the next day asking if everythingâs alright because Naomi came up to him and asked whether he âfelt a kind of camaraderie - no that was HER word, Samantha - with her over being the two survivors of a doomed alternate timelineâ. And then she patted his arm and assured him that âeverything would be alright, ensign.â
Most grievously, the Doctor demands to know what kind of media Naomiâs been consuming because she asked him during her check-up if the rendition of Pierrot heâs been humming werenât âa bit derivative of Jean-Gaspard Deburau, and wouldnât he like to put his own spin on it?â
Samantha has absolutely no idea how to broach this with the captain, whose comments about Naomi being âextremely bright and interested in philosophy and the artsâ are starting to make a great deal more sense.
