I basically just go through the same things with clothing and hair, so I didn’t bother with it.

Brushes used:

Marker tool, Dry brush, ink pen.

Believe it or not, I actually just use my main program, paint tool sai! Here’s how I go about it:

I draw whatever I want at a normal size, and make the sketch/lines light gray. From there, I resize it to the desired resolution. Let’s work with 50x50 this time!

from there, I’m left with a tiiiiny version of my previous sketch! It gives me enough of an idea of where I want to place the lines, like so

and the rest is just going through the ropes of any usual drawing :) (colors, details, etc)

I clean it up and voila! A little pixel man

the ONLY tools I use (other than the initial sketch) are the binary tool and the bucket. Just be sure to turn off anti aliasing for the bucket. ALSO - don’t use the eraser to clean up mistakes. Either eyedrop the color you need, or click the little checkerboard by the colors. That turns your current tool into an eraser!

I didn’t mean to make a whole tutorial, but I hope this helps haha!
