‘ it was an honest mistake, mom. i did try in the beginning but i kind of forgot about them until now. in my defense, i have been busy adjusting to college but i’d love to spend time with you. ’

“I’ve never had a green thumb so I admire the fact you’re even trying to keep plants alive.”

‘ i wouldn’t say i have a green thumb -- i mean, i killed the majority of my plants. ’

“a lot of people i know can’t seem to take care of plants, so you’re not alone in that. at least you still have some living. oh, my parents and siblings i think have accepted that it’s a rarity if i bring anyone over. like i found a unicorn and brought it home or something. when did you move here?“

‘ four years ago. ’ sutton said with a chuckle. ‘ i have friends but not a lot and i know it seems like i should have made more friends by now but it’s not really a priority for me. ’

“it’s not gross. or, at least, not the grossest thing i’ve ever heard. how many do you have that’ll still alive? they sound difficult to take care of. oh, um, only if you want me to. i don’t wanna impose or anything.“

‘ i promise you they are not that hard to take care of. i’m just a shitty caretaker and forgot to water them for a long time. right now, i have two that are in good condition so for now they are my most prized but you wouldn’t be imposing. you would actually be doing me a favor. my mum has been bugging me to invite more people over since we moved here - something about making more friends.’

“geraniums are great to brighten up a room and they’re super easy to care for. Just keep them in sunlight and don’t water them too much.” 

‘ do you have any dahlias? they’re one of my favorites and they have a wide variety of colors. begonias will work too. though i think i might have to keep them away from the windowsill. i think they have become sunburnt from sitting there too long which i completely take the blame for. ’

“what’s the occasion? I might be able to help.” the woman had only been back in town for a week after months of being gone, but she was taking to her job as a florist very well.

‘ no occasion. simply decorating my room -- it needed a little spruce and color. also, the plants that i brought over from the move didn’t last long. ’

“oh, okay. what do they look like? i think i have an idea of what you’re talking about.”

‘ so think of aloe vera -- you know how the leaves of it are thick and filled? well succulents are similar to that because the leaves are also very thick and fleshy. i know that sounds gross but they are so pretty. if you want you could come over and take a look at them... the ones that are alive, that is. ’

“A plant? You’re judging on how you’re life is doing based on some plants? If that’s the case, then I think you have more going on than just some dead house plants, I’m just saying.”

‘ well, yeah. most house plants are supposed to be easy to take care and i can’t even fuckin’ do that. ’

“um. what are succulents?”

‘ they’re plants as well. succulents are my favorite -- they all store water and are very thick which is why i think i like them so much. ’

ok to start off, her birth parents were/are trASH !! when she was a baby they would leave her home alone to get high and wasted. she would cry for hours because she was hungry and needed to be changed but they never came until the next morning. 

eventually, her neighbors in the apartment next door were fed up with all the crying so they called the police and they took sutton away. her parents didn’t even know she was gone until the next day. 

flash forward to a couple years later and she is still in the system. her luck wasn’t the best for finding a forever home. they always seemed like they would work out but that hope fizzled out

fostered by katherine and her husband by the age of eight. sutton was very hesitant about the whole situation as she was with any foster home so she liked to test her boundaries a lot. doing things just to see the consequences of her actions. she learned to trust the two of them when they didn’t yell or get mad at her for stupid shit that she did out of spite

adopted about six/seven months later (when she was nine) which was pretty sicc for her. they didn’t pressure into anything that she wasn’t ready for which was a nice change

not too big on commitment and is impulsive in her choices

quite shy and has major insecurities. these past few months she hasn’t been feeling the best both physically and mentally. her insecurities have gotten the best of her and this time she’s not fighting back.

has lived in evanston for about for four years but hasn’t quite settled in yet. she’s not used to living a place for a good amount of time.. blame that on both foster care and witness protection relocating her family. more info on mama graves’ page. so like disregard anything that would contradict that,,,,,,

college freshman!! she’s is already overwhelmed with classes and they just started. going for art studies and liberal studies

tends to keep to herself. yes she’ll talk with other but it is nothing more than a conversation with another person and often times hates it. but if she genuinely likes you and is comfortable with you then there is no problem. ex: willingly talk with her mom and siblings for hours bc she loves them all so much and is very protective over them

keeps things about herself TO herself. not really in a secretive way but it just comes naturally to her. for example, if she gets a job, she won’t tell anyone but if it does come up in conversation she’ll be like ‘oh yeah i started two weeks ago, it’s really cool’. she mainly thinks no one cares which is kinda true???? OR when she first came out to her family she didn’t really “come out”. it was more like ‘hey mom, since your having everyone over for dinner can i bring this girl i’m kind of seeing? cool thx’

ok so for her secret i was super vague with her not taking care of herself and disregarding her health. sutton often times forgets to eat and she won’t until someone reminds her to which doesn’t happen bc no one rlly pays attention. growing up in foster care, if you weren’t fast enough when dinner was called then the other kids would steal it all. so there were days when she wouldn’t eat at all so now when she forgets to eat, she doesn’t think it’s a big deal. she also finds herself losing interest and not caring for things she once did/ meant a lot to her (singing, writing, ++). she just feels overall shitty but is too scared to do anything about it. sutton has too much pride to ask for help so she’s just bottling everything up.

she may be shy but she’s also very truculent and sometimes starts fights even when it’s not necessary

art is a big part of her life especially painting and sketching
