as he waited for suzy to open the door, he nodded his head at the passing girls that he assumed were rooming with her. ricky didn’t think of what they were saying or thinking, he was more focused on suzy and the day ahead out on the lake. ricky grinned widely as she opened the door up for him, her arms welcoming him. he stepped forward, wrapping his own arms around her for a hug. ricky’s smile never faltered as she started asking all the questions, something that had originally shocked him, but now he had grown accustomed to it. shaking his head as he stepped back from her, he said, “you won’t ruin it, suzy. but if you do end up flipping us over, that’s fine. honestly, flipping over is half the fun of canoeing.” he tried his best to soothe her because he knew that she was nervous about it.
“yeah, i’ve gone a couple times with my dad and a couple of friends,” ricky stated, and even though he missed a couple of his friends from back home, he didn’t miss his dad. plus, suzy was there, and it always seemed like the two of them had known each other for ages despite it only being a couple weeks. “it’s really not that bad, i promise you.” he reassured her with a smile.
suzy gave a small squeeze with their hug, something to show appreciation and excitement to be with him for the rest of the day. “flipping over is half the fun? i don’t think i’ve ever heard anyone say that before. i have heard ‘don’t rock the boat’ before, so now i don’t know which rule to follow. do i intentionally rock the boat or not? this is far too confusing.” she laughed, obviously joking with her words and finding it to be hilarious.
“that sounds like so much fun, and i’m glad to have someone with some experience with me on my first try. imagine us doing it with neither of us having any clue how to. that would be a mess, we’d surely fall over the minute we get in the canoe.” it was definitely an over exaggeration, but that was half of what suzy said most of the time. “i believe you, and i’m excited anyway.”
