Blake nodded and watched the Grimm as Athena began searching for the dust. Sure enough, the creatures leapt for both of the faunus. Had they recognized that Athena was distracted? Whatever the case, Blake leapt in front of Athena, drawing the two attacks together.

All in one neat little row, Blake thought. Her aura rippled over her form as she swiped with both halves, one long arc crashing into the creatures and dissipating them almost instantly. But it flickered, then–she had enough for one final stand before she was on her own.

“Here!” Athena handed her two cartridges--one of red burn dust, the other of sky-blue freeze dust. “These should do for now--lemme know if you need more!” Recognizing the slack she had been giving, Athena pulled Gullaina out and aimed it at the fishes.

The searobin grunted as a bright beam of warm, golden energy shot forth from the trident-weapon’s tips and started electrifying the water beneath them.

“Perfect.” Blake raced with her, keeping Athena’s pace. Now was the time for potshots; she kept firing and swiping into the swarming school, keeping their attention on her. Sure enough, the Razorfins followed.

As soon as they’d reached the outcropping, Blake came to a halt, staring down at the fish Grimm. She thought for a few moments before turning to Athena.

“Do you have any ice dust and fire dust?” She asked. “I have an idea.”

“Uh--cover me!” Athena called, and several of the razorfins jumped out at her--though she seemed too busy trying to find something in one of her pouches to react in time. She most certainly did have fire and ice dust, she just had to find it...

Meanwhile, several of the razorfins also leaped up to try and attack Blake.

“We can use the mass of the big ships to lock it in place too,” Beryl picks up the round on the table and moves over to Oathseer. “If this is ready, I think we should move it as soon as possible. I’ve got the carpenter working on a simple tool for the ships to deliver the trap. I don’t like the idea of using yourself as bait so close to the action.”

Beryl looks down at the diagram and focuses on the area beyond the dock.

“I also think we should begin to move citizens to the most secure areas of the village immediately, perhaps evacuate them to a nearby village if possible.”

Athena nodded, “Agreed. Don’t worry about moving it, I’ve already got a couple folks in mind--but as for not wanting me so close to the action...” Athena gave a shrug, “This monster’s my responsibility, so too bad, huntsman. I’m going to be right up in its face when it dies, and you’ll have to break my legs to stop me. Are we clear?”

Her eyes narrowed at him in a harsh glare; this monster was her responsibility--if she hadn’t halfway-blinded it, it likely wouldn’t have come back for seconds--even if they survived its assault. It had made them fear it, and that was enough. But now, someone wasn’t afraid of it, and that was fascinating to the beast.

Or so it seemed.

There was no time for pot shots. Blake’s eyes narrowed and she pulled Gambol Shroud from its sheath. Before Athena could even finish her sentence, Blake leapt upward. Channeling her aura into her swipes, she sent a number lavender energy-waves to cut through the leaping swarm before landing again. She did her best to make them large enough to take out several in one, but she still had to blink out of the way as one of them cut through her clone.

“We need to draw them away from the docks,” she called to Athena as she shot the one she’d missed dead in the eye. “I think we can do that between us.”

“Agreed,” Athena nodded, “thanks--the one thing that Gullaina can’t do is crowd control.” Most underwater grimm were single-targets, and even razorfins weren’t usually in schools this large. “I know where we can take ‘em!”

The redhead bolted ahead; as long as the razorfins were focused on them, they didn’t have to worry about collateral. Moving as fast as she could along the beach, Athena explained, “there’s a small outcropping we use to fish, but it also makes it hard for fish to get out of--so it’d be like fish in a barrel!”

Blake drew Gambol Shroud as she hurried after Athena, the ribbon trailing behind her. She eyed the razorfins, even saw a few jumping from the water like salmon, as though to get a better view of those ashore. Her ears tilted back in thought.

“How many personal watercraft do you have?” she finally asked, looking to Athena.

“Uh...right now, whatever you see. The other dock is too far away--and I’d like to keep our vessels away from those bastards. What we really don’t need is--” She was cut off by the sounds of the razorfins swirling out of the water, and spreading their fins like wings as they started using their upward momentum to come down on Blake and Athena--razor-sharp, sword-like skulls aimed right for them. “--THAT! TELL ME YOU CAN DO AREA SWEEPS!”

“As many as we can spare. As soon as we fire that harpoon, if we don’t kill it with that shot, the people manning it will be sitting ducks with one very pissed off Grimm just a few meters from them.” 

He taps Oathseer’s harpoon rail.

“At best, this thing kills it. But more likely it’s just going to give us a very destructive distraction and I think I know a way we can take advantage of it.”

He walks over to the soot-covered table and draws the bay with the two hills on it, one with an ‘X’ to note the emplacement of Oathseer. In the middle of the two hills, he places a pointed metal shard, it faces the town to indicate the Grimm. Beryl proceeds to explain what it all means.

“Now, this thing will be targeting you as you say and you’ll be here, at the docks to draw its attention away from Oathseer. As soon as we fire it and chain it to the hill,” he turns the shard towards the hill, “It focuses on the hill and now it’s blind spots are here, and here.” Beryl now draws two arrows at the shard’s sides. “We pincer the damn thing when it turns and lock it in place.” He then places the ice round on the table.

Athena was watching him like a hawk, nodding as he spoke and leaning on Gullaina. “I’ll have to check with the dockmaster, but if what you’re saying is right, we don’t even need a particularly big ship. With what you suggest, we just need to pin it down, and then have all possible fire aimed right at it.” She started thinking to herself, “...It’ll be watching for me. Once it sees me, wherever I am will be a target. What if,” she started to think, “What if instead of two ships that pinch it in, we use three?” Her eyes are glimmering when she talks--and her excitement regarding this is palpable.

“Two of the ships will be heavy arms--meant to snap around it like a bear trap. The third, though, can be tiny--I only want to use it so I draw attention away from the others.”

Blake’s ears stood straight as the call went out and the spell was broken. She got to her feet when Athena did and put a hand to her blade. “I’ll come with you. I told you I can help, and I will. Lead the way, Athena.”

Athena nodded, pulling out Gullaina and bolting ahead to the restaurant’s exit, towards the shoreline. Sure enough, as the two approached, Athena could see the familiar, dark, swarming-schools of black fish with burning eyes, “There--see them? Those are Razorfins; they can shear through a steel hull when there’s this many. We need a way to get rid of them before they tear up the docks.”

Blake watched Athena for a heartbeat before leaning in and taking the straw facing her between her lips. As she began to drink, she met Athena’s eyes and could see the emotion in them. That made a world of difference from Adam. Athena wore her heart on her sleeve… and, it seemed, her heart was for Blake.

But they’d only just met that day. Not even an hour ago. Why did it feel like they’d known each other for much longer…?

Athena had a similar feeling bubbling up in her chest. Part of her wanted to throw all this nonsense about social customs away and just--

“RAZORFINS AT THE DOCKS!” Someone shouted. Athena all but bolted up, “Oh, you’ve gotta...” she grumbled, “S-sorry Blake--I-I’ll be back in a few minutes...?” she trailed off, rubbing her head. “Razorfins are kinda...really important...”

Blake’s ears perked at Athena’s reassurances and she smiled. “Good,” she replied, and nodded to the waiter as they set down the glass. But though she waited for a second glass to be set down, she realized it wasn’t coming… and there were two straws in the one that was.

She hesitated, her ears tilting back in apprehension. They were meant to share. Her eyes turned upward, meeting Athena’s, and she swallowed for a moment. It was clear that Athena had come to the same conclusion Blake had; her face was beet red. But there was something else there, too–some glimmer of hope. Her heart skipped a beat at the sight.

She had only just left Adam, she had to remember. Anything she felt wasn’t going to be real. But it certainly felt like it…

“No, no, I… I don’t mind.” Blake smiled lightly. “We can share.”

“I-if you’re...sure,” Athena’s lips slowly curled into a smile, “Th-then...” she slowly leaned forward, gently sipping from the straw.

What was she doing? Her head was spinning, but she couldn’t stop herself--whatever this was, she didn’t want it to stop. Not now...not ever.

Her eyes would have been hearts, if that were possible.

“I think its a solid plan. It would be an even better one if we can figure out a way to immobilize it after we shoot it. We also need something to fall back on in case this thing fails.” 

Beryl taps the device with is foot and pulls out the ice round he was playing with earlier.

“I might have an idea of how to do that. This is a coastal village, how many ships do you have and how many are you willing to lose to kill this thing?”

“Yes, well,” Athena sighs, “That’s the difficult part. How do you immobilize a grimm that big and that strong?”

At his question, however, Athena looked over at him with furrowed brows, “Uh--how many do you need...?”

Blake listened out for where the two members would be, running in that direction. Probably not her best idea, but she didn’t exactly have one of those right now, just going with whatever her gut was telling her.

She spots them, and shifts Gambol again to throw it, aiming to catch both of them in the ribbon and prevent them from getting to anymore homes. It wasn’t a permanent solution, but it was the first thing she thought of, and she needed to stop them before they caused anymore panic..

As the ribbon fastened itself around them, both grunts looked up at her, fury in their eyes--like rabid dogs, they were. “There she--argh!” one of them grunted, trying to free himself from the bindings, while the other struggled and pulled to little avail.

But just then, the commander comes up beside Blake, aiming to surprise her. He raises his weapon, yelling out as the frost dust activates on his weapon and causes an explosion of ice--which sends him flying back. He moves to his feet, looking up to see the damage he’d done...

Blake blushed at Athena’s laughter, but she wasn’t embarrassed, not really. It wasn’t malicious laughter at all–there wasn’t a hint of derision in Athena’s smile, not like there was in Adam’s smirk. Instead, Blake smiled with her, and followed her inside the restaurant.

“Tuna, by far,” she replied. “But if that’s not doable then I’ll just have whatever is freshest.”

As they sat, she took in the restaurant’s decor, smiling lightly at it. “This is such an adorable place,” she commented. “It’s like one of those hidden gems you see on television. I like it.”

“Hah,” Athena snickered, “Except nobody goes just south of the kingdom. So we don’t get any real PR here.” She hums, and as Blake starts with ‘but if that’s not doable,’ Athena can’t help the giggle that escapes. “Don’t worry, don’t worry--Tuna won’t be a problem.”

It was only their single most-common fish; you know, it wasn’t like Blake would be able to get any.  Athena was still giggling when they were both brought a glass of crystal clear water. A glass, with two straws in it. It took Athena a solid few moments to process that their waiter, in noticing Athena’s shift in tone with this girl to one of laughter and joy, had tried to play matchmaker. The searobin’s face went deep red, and she turned around to admonish the waiter, but by that time, they were already gone to the back of the restaurant.

Turning back to Blake, Athena tried to ignore the bright-redness that drew itself across her face like a crimson cloak. Swallowing, she started, “Y-you know, it’s okay i-if you wanna take this glass a-and I’ll just...” just as quickly as she had begun, her words fell quiet as she peered up at her faunus “friend.” They had only met earlier that same day, so why did it...?

Blake watches the two of them fight, and waits for some perfect moment to step in and prove she’s more useful than just sitting around and hiding– but that moment never really comes, so she settles for just stepping in when she sees some sort of opening. She spots the two other members heading off into an alley, and shakes her head a little. Okay, this was as good a time as ever.

Blake finally makes herself stand up, and she steps into view, firing at the commander hoping she’ll hit somewhere important to at least give Athena some upper hand. She uses her semblance and heads off into the alleyway afterwards to take care of the other two members, changing her weapon back to it’s sword form.

Athena would scold Blake or say something, but right now, her attention is far more focused on her enemy--blocking his attacks, hitting him across the face with her weapon--which she since shifted back to a trident...

Meanwhile, the lackeys both ended up working together, the two of them kicking in the doors of those who didn’t immediately let them search their homes--they were spreading panic amongst the people; the grimm would come soon...
