GIVE MERYL A GRAMMY!
Meryl Streep has showcased her vocal talent in multiple movies. Meryl and singing is kind of synonymous at this point. But I recently noticed something pretty incredible. I rewatched Ricky and the Flash (yet again) and liked a couple tracks so downloaded them. Listening to them in my car, I came to a realisation. โRickyโsโ singing voice is not Merylโฆitโs Ricky.
Now, hear me out.
Close your eyes and listen to Ricky Rendazzo singing. Now try to imagine that this same voice belongs to Dee Dee Allen. Or Madeline Ashton. Or Donna Sheridan. Or Suzanne Vale. Or ANY other of Merylโs characters.
It doesnโt work.
Listen to ANY Meryl-film soundtrack and try to imagine another Meryl character singing that song. NONE OF THEM WORK.
Why? Because Meryl embodies EVERY SINGLE character in a truly unique way. We know Meryl is known for her talent with accents - but I never realised this is also true of her musical voice. Every single musical-character has a very unique voice, seemingly coming from a character-specific place.
DO YOU KNOW HOW DIFFICULT THAT IS?!
Every. Single. Character. has a UNIQUE voice to the point where you just canโt imagine it belonging to any other of her characters.
Donโt believe me? Try it for yourself!
AND GIVE MERYL A GRAMMY!

I'm sure Meryl wanted to transform the plot of โDevil Wears Pradaโ into a wlw story, but I can't prove it
Meryl Streep as Susan Orlean Adaptation. (2002) dir. Spike Jonze
She may belong in a psych ward but most importantly she belongs to me
She's just a 52 year old baby.
Jokes aside it's interesting how Miranda stutters and loses her words when she's stressed, but she also is deliberate in how she takes her time doing things, doesn't raise her voice etc
Andy: she isn't happy unless everyone around her is panicked, nauseous, or suicidal
Welp Miranda's hyper control would have to leak out somewhere
I headcanon that she's not comfortable with public speaking and dealing with people and conflict, which is why she looked uncomfortable during her Paris speech, but kinda kept posing her neck/face and put work into her delivery. She does the same thing when she's stressed waiting for Emily to remember those people's names. She poses like "look, I'm so elegant."
But it's all just control to hide that she freaks out and can't be seen freaking out
In this film (The French Lieutenant's Woman), she is so similar in character to the young Miranda (Mariam). And she's also a redhead โค๏ธ It's clear who the twins are like.
