what fans could and should do is recognize that their favourite athletes choose whether to praise zverev's slam or not for reasons of personal branding that have nothing to do with their personal relationship with him. for example, both carlos alcaraz and eva lys are allegedly on friendly terms with him, but lys won't post about his winning in her stories because that would be detrimental to her everybody-likes-her image, which is the main selling point of her marketability. while alcaraz would congratulate zverev in public because his brand is about being gracious with his peers, and also because he's carlos alcaraz. which gives him considerably more leverage than… being eva lys. given that every action made in the public eye by celebrities is a power move, making lists about “good” and “bad” people based on whether they made a congratulatory story yesterday is simply missing the mark.
do you remember two weeks ago, when everyone was ready to compare sinner's imminent victory at rg to federer's in 2009? and they were right to guess that the theme of the tournament would be “the winner will be someone who would've never won in different circumstances”. except that the definition called for another, more deserving (derogative) name
she is also distressed
no one could protect maja from mirra on a mission but now we need to figure out who’s gonna protect her from a fate worst than death delivered by roger federer’s worst money laundering scheme: an on sponsorship
if mirra : carlos can we hope that maja : casper

the last spiteful yaoi we've ever had
the women’s final being everyone gets a puppy vs everyone gets a puppy… men’s please follow suit
haven't had a chance yet this tournament to watch any of maja's matches, but my god I get the hype
her dropshot lob combo is one of the most beautiful things I've seen all tournament
the fact that no matter what happens in the final, adriano panatta will see an italian on that podium next sunday

jcf and carlos' split happening not even a week after pietrangeli's death, because tennis gods knew we needed someone who could deliver unhinged replies to interviewers <3

new instance of «juan carlos ferrero gets asked whether he'd be down to coach sinner and coyly answers why not» just dropped
also and not unrelated but this rg is another nail in the coffin of the 90s gen atp players. it's no coincidence that the last ones standing in the qfs are berrettini, who is at the stage of his career where he plays like a man with nothing to lose, and zverev who is simply too strong to lose in the early rounds.
being n. 1 in the wta right now is a bit like being hugh capet of france. aryna is secure in her power, but she knows that she's not strong enough to completely dominate those powerful vassals who have already won multiple slams, the 30-something feudal ladies who are capable of making deep run in big tournaments and upsetting the big candidates, the ambitious teenage knights who already have the tools to win big titles. and then there's always the occasional pirate who comes to the shores to plunder and kill the reigning champion. but this also means that levels remain quite clear amidst the fragmentation of power. meanwhile the atp is ruled like the ancien régime, where castes exist but everyone, from aristocrats to paupers, is equally subjected to the royal family. and now that the kings are down almost anyone has a shot at becoming napoléon.
