The sound of rain had always calmed you, the little pitter patter-ing of it soothing your nerves. However, tonight, out of all nights, it didn't seem to be working. You ran your hand through your damp hair for what seemed like the thousandth time. Your attempts to 'lock-in' are futile as the words on the page begin to blur together and look like a whole other language due to your fatigue. You feel your eyelids getting heavier as the minutes pass, slowly closing more and more each time you blink.
As you feel yourself blissfully drifting off to sleep on your cluttered desk, accepting the inevitable fate of failing your test tomorrow, you heard a sudden, jarring knock. Your head snapped up as you looked towards your door, you glanced at the clock that lay tilted on your desk, one side elevated by a few copies. It read 00:00. Your parents are never up this late.. You think to blame it on your sleep deprivation, when suddenly, the knock returns. This time, louder and more rapid. You turn your head towards your window, covered by your floral patterned curtains which you vividly remember picking out when you were 14, (you regret your choices). You feel your pulse spiking, every horror movie scenario playing in your head as you raise your hand to push aside the curtains, pure curiosity making you ignore your better instincts.
Slowly, the curtain folded away to reveal a dark silhouette crouched outside your window, illuminated by the faint LEDs of your room. Your fear melted away as soon as you saw a familiar face, Satoru's face. Your eyes lit up, tiredness dissipating as you quickly fumbled, as quietly as you could, with the window handle to let him in. His attempt to elegantly climb in miserably fails, he instead stumbles and creates enough noise to wake up the entire neighborhood. You swiftly place your pointer finger against your lips to signal silence while you try to hear if your parents have woken up. You sense his cerulean blue eyes staring at your lips for a few seconds before they quickly flicked up to yours. A few seconds pass, and you finally look back over to him, his wet, ivory hair draped over his eyes, his eyelashes shining from the rain, and from beneath them, he was looking deep into your eyes. The smell of the earth after rain mixed with sweat and expensive cologne hits you suddenly, his presence overwhelming but comforting, and familiar.
His gaze lingers on yours for a second too long before he clears his throat and straightens up, forcing you to look up at him. "Hey..", He says in a low voice, a smirk starts to poke at the corners of his lips. "Hey, what.. are you doing here?", You reply, inquiring him about his sudden drop by. "Just, wanted to see my favourite girl..". He intertwines his pinky with yours, pouting his lips slightly while swaying side to side. You feel your cheeks flushing, he always manages to make you blush easily - it's always been like that. He knows it too, and he uses it to his advantage. Any chance he gets, in public or in private, he'll whisper something, in a breathy and low voice, that'll make you tense up and squirm right where you are. He's learned your body movements and facial expressions after studying them for months on end, memorising them like his life depends on it. He knows exactly what to say and what to do to make your heart flutter at a moment's notice, and he enjoys it, maybe a bit too much.
He turns his head towards your messy desk, disorganized papers sprawled across books and copies of varying thicknesses, ranging from Physics to English. He tilts his head back to you and raises his eyebrow, communicating without words. What's this about? Your free hand rubs the back of your neck while you look up at him sheepishly, "I know..." You murmur. He chuckles softly, bringing his hand up to lightly brush your jaw, "Hey.. Do you happen to have a spare shirt?", he asks, looking back at you now. You snap back to reality, remembering that it was raining when he decided to give you a surprise visit. You look down and see that the droplets of rain have darkened the sleeves and shoulders of his varsity jacket, dotting down to the front of it. Beneath it, he's wearing a white shirt that is slightly dampened and see-through.
You let out a small gasp in realization, to which he smiles at, looking down at you. "I'll find something real quick" You whip around to your closet which is in as much of a disarray as your desk, both reflecting your current mental state. You dig through the seemingly endless amounts of shirts until you find an over-sized, yellow, t-shirt that has a black silhouette of a motorbike on the front and text above and beneath it. You spin around and push your arms out toward him, holding the shirt in both hands, proudly displaying the design. He examines it and snickers softly to himself, "It's perfect, thank you.", you smile sweetly, happy to know that he approves of your t-shirt. He peels off his jacket, laying it on the back of your chair. "I'll get you a towel!", You say, turning around and entering your bathroom, which is still slightly humid from the shower you took beforehand. Your eyes scan the room for a dry towel, however, the only one in there is the one that you used to towel dry your hair. You can't get another one as the rest of them are in your parents room and you really do not want to risk waking them up, "It'll do.." You sigh to yourself.
You walk back into your room, looking down at the used towel messily slung over your forearm, "Sorry toru, this is the only-", your sentence gets cut short when you look up. Satoru is standing there, shirtless, his pecs and lean abs glistening from the remnants of rainwater that stuck his shirt onto his torso. The faint light from your desk lamp and LEDs highlight his soft skin and the sharp cuts of his body perfectly, making him look like he's come straight out of a glorious movie scene. His abs look like beautiful glazed cinnamon rolls, and you just wanna eat them up. His hair is now messy from him removing his clothes, stray tufts and strands falling wherever they'd like. His cheeks are a rosy pink as you look at him, your jaw hanging open. You quickly blink a few times and close your mouth to regain composure, but it's hard when you have a hunk of hottie right in front of you. A calm silence falls between you two for a while as you admire him. However, you slightly shake your head to remind yourself of what you were saying before. "Um.. As I was saying," You grin awkwardly, "This is the only towel I have, sorry, I used it for my hair". You step towards him and hand it to him, attempting - and failing- to keep your eyes off his chest. "I prefer this over a regular towel." He says smugly, knowing exactly how you'd react, especially with his bare chest right in front of you. You quickly look down at your feet, a poor attempt to hide the redness that you know is painted all over your face.
He laughs, a warm, smooth and comforting laugh, and softly places a peck on your forehead while ruffling you hair, "You're so unbearably cute,". "Toru!!" You exclaim, a nickname you gave him when you two started dating. You tried to sound annoyed but giggled all the same. You love these moments, these sweet moments late at night where it's just the two of you in the world and no one else. He makes you feel like the most precious person in the universe, and to him, you are. You're the most spectacular, beautiful girl in the world to him. You're the only one who truly matters to him, you're the only one he can confide in and the only one he can be with without ever getting bored or wanting to leave. You're the only one who really, truly understands him, even when he doesn't say anything. And it's the same for you with him, you feel safe with him, he's your second home and you're his.
He quickly puts on the shirt you gave him, on him, it fits normally while on you, it's oversized. You giggle to yourself a bit at this fact. He looks over again at your desk once he's dressed, "Whatcha studying for?", He inquires. "A stupid English test..." You mumble, disdain dripping from your words. He glances back at you with a smile at hearing that, "You know.. I could help you.", "What?? Really!?" You exclaim, almost jumping for joy at the prospect of getting some emergency aid during these dire times. However, you feel the need to question him on his English abilities. "Wait, are you even good at English??", he places his hand on his chest in mock offense, "Of course!! How dare you question Shakespeare's very own ancestor!" You look at him suspiciously, "Well 'Shakespeare's very own ancestor', would you happen to have any proof of your skill?". This has turned into somewhat of an interrogation. "Well.." He takes a long pause, as if considering telling you something. "Well?" You urge him to continue, "Well yes actually, I do!", he announces, "Oh? And what would this proof be?"
He shuffles awkwardly while putting his hand behind his back, you look down to see him pull out a folded piece of white, lined paper. You raise an eyebrow in curiosity, also a gesture for him to continue. You can see his hand shaking slightly due to nervousness, and your intrigue only increases the longer he waits to tell you what it is he insists on dragging out. He slowly unfolds the paper, lines creasing it into 4 separate parts. You can see his neat writing written along the blue lines, far neater than yours could ever be. The light from your desklamp shines through the paper, allowing you to see everything that is written, backwards. "I sometimes write, uh, poems, about you (he said the thing!!) and just in general..". He looks down at his feet, a light baby pink dusting his cheeks, making you just want to pinch them between your fingers. "Oh my god, whatt?? Toru, why didn't you tell me before?? That's so cute!! Can I see, pretty pretty pleaseeeee??", you beg, dragging out the 's' sound. He laughs inwardly at your puppy eyes and pleading. "Ok, ok, but only cause you're my pretty girl", You blush a bit at that.
He takes your hand, his thumb rubs over your knuckles softly as he leads you to sit down your bed. Your yellow covers with cherries on top dipping as he sits down. You sit directly opposite of him, looking into his pale blue eyes. His eyes dart from you to his poem as you eagerly wait for him to begin. He starts reading, the words leaving his mouth and entering your ears in his velvety voice that you know so well. In his poem, he describes you as if you are the most ethereal person he's ever known, a goddess that blessed him with your presence. You never thought that anyone could or would ever see you like he sees you. He appreciates not only your beauty, but your wit, your humour, things he loves about you that only proves his devotion to you and love for you. You could cry at how endearing the whole thing was.
When he finished, he looked back up at you, a nervous smile on his face with the tips of his ears turned red. You just look at him, wondering how you deserved such an amazing boyfriend, most guys your age only cared about girls' bodies and the pleasure it could bring them, then moving onto the next warm body the very next night. But Satoru wasn't like them, at all, he was so loving, so caring and understanding. You finally urged words out of your mouth, "Satoru... that was-" "Bad? Was it really bad? Oh no, I'm sorry-", "No! Of course not, toru. It was beautiful, seriously, I mean it. Like that is the best piece of literature I've ever heard, can I keep it, please?" You see his shoulders relax, letting go of his insecurity over the poem, finally letting a relieved smile rest on his face. "Sure, here ya go". He hands it over to you, overjoyed at the fact that you liked- no, loved his poem. You look down at his writing on the paper, every word written like he truly means it, because he really does.
You suddenly remember that you have an English to study for, and how Satoru said he could help you. "Oh wait," You start, looking back up to him, "I still have to study for that test, and you said you'd help me!" You remind him, slowly getting up off the bed. Suddenly, Satoru wraps his arms tightly around your waist and pulls you back down onto the bed. The abrupt action pulls a squeal out of you, "Eek!! Toru, what're doing??", you exclaim, a giggle slipping out from your lips. "I don't wanna studyyy, just wanna cuddle..", He murmurs, nuzzling his face into your neck. "Toruuu", you whine in protest, but you already know you're not gonna do anything about it. You quickly fold up the poem and reach up to put it onto your desk. You and Satoru get comfy on the bed, him being the big spoon while having his arm lazily slung over your waist, making you feel safe and comfy. You can feel the heat radiating off him, making the environment even cosier and perfect. You feel your tiredness catching up to you, pulling you down into a deep sleep.
Yeah, you're failing that English test tomorrow...
