became the things

that I like

I knew I was in for

a wild ride

Poetic Memory

When these sad poems

become memories

does that mean

I’m healing?

Maybe

I’m getting there

or maybe

things never heal

or maybe

they leave a scar

and maybe

it’s cyclical

and maybe

it always hurts

and maybe

those memories

become sad poems

—perhaps healing takes (a life)time

Was anything ever right?

I will not

let you take from me

what was never yours

what I never should have given you

what was mine and mine alone

You killed me a little bit

I didn’t know I was dying

with each breath

until you ripped it out

bleeding and ravaged

you returned it

broken and rotted

but I’ve fixed it

I’ve patched it up

allowed the decay to fall away

I made it whole again

I did that

All you did

was make it harder for the next person

who may truly want to cherish me

I forgot how to let it out

to let myself

scream

fall apart;

to allow myself

I just want to say I think about this poem ask the time and I often am bright to tears when I reread it. I want to print it out and hang it by my mirror. I want to tattoo the line “I will survive the rotting creature I have been” on my body.

Sempiternus

There are parts of me, left all across this town as memories. Who says we can’t live forever?

There are lessons that I have learned, lessons that I have taught, that will then be taught to others. Who says we can’t live forever?

There are habits, quirks, little things that I do that I have taught others or that others have picked up from me and will then teach other people. Who says we can’t live forever?

There are words that I have written, words that I have said, that have changed the way that someone views the world. Who says that we can’t live forever?

There are stories that I have told, dreams that I have conveyed, pictures that I have drawn, and photos that I have taken, that will live forever as memories.

Who says that we can’t live forever also?

The purest form of love is consideration. When someone thinks about how things would make you feel. Pays attention to detail. Holds you in regard when making decisions that could affect you. In any bond, how much they care about you can be found in how much they consider you
