Not quite 40 yet but my big advice:

That big plan you have for your life isn’t going to happen. Not the way you planned it. It just won’t. It’s going to be delayed, it’s going to be amended, maybe it’s going to be completely and totally different. Be ok with that. Be flexible with the changes life throws at you and don’t mourn that big plan that never got to happen. With only a couple (weird) exceptions, I haven’t met an adult over 30 whose life turned out like they thought it would when they were 20. That’s life and it’s ok.
