Welcome To The Zoo
Welcome to the zoo
Where the ones who write the plaques
Upon the walls
Know nothing at all about you
Welcome to a place
Where the people stop and stare
Shouting every insult they can think of
While claiming that they care
Welcome to a world
Where every tragedy makes you
hope whoever did the terrible things
Doesn’t look at all like you
Because all the animals get blamed
That look like they do
They fear everything they think we do
All the fantasies that they have
As they lay awake at night
Sitting behind their keyboards
Driving their cars to work
Making speeches behind a podium
As we hit our noses
Over and over again
Upon the filthy glass
How many times can you clip a bird’s wings
Until you finally feel safe enough to say
It cannot fly
How many cages do you need
To build in a world full of cages
Until you can finally sleep at night
Welcome to the zoo
Where the jailers feel like they're the victims
And you're told every day about your freedoms
By the people who shout at you
from the other side of the glass
And you’re expected to be okay
Your’e expected to be a polite beast
Who smiles and has nothing bad to say
To sit in your cage
But not take up space
Your’e expected to give and give
While others take and take
Welcome to the zoo
Where you’re expected to be happy
Staring out at the people on the other side of the glass
Who think you are nothing but an animal
Who deserves to be behind glass
You don’t make the rules here
But everyone shouts that you make the rules here
After all, you are the most powerful shackled
Beat down beast on earth,
They wouldn’t fear you
If you weren’t
