this is what happens when your brain is running on 4 hours of sleep and runs on both strong tea and coffee
not sure if Spamton gets turned into a puppet because yk. Og Stanley in tsp is already a sort of puppet vessel for the player. At least that’s how I perceive it. DOODLES UNDER THE CUT!
cough cough @britishbiscuits look. the cringe au I was talking about. I drew it literally day before I saw your tsp x deltarune drawings
Hopefully later I’ll post another lil thing I did for this au but oh my god my hand hurts from drawing AGAIN
Would you like an Angelpy & devilpy in this trying time?
I initially finished these near the beginning of summer, but didn't get around to posting them :<
Since then, my hyperfixation has shifted, but at least I got these out :D I also reposted my other two itemlabel gijinka fanarts alongside this on my profile, which u can check out! Hopefully it won't take too much scrolling to get to :,)
I feel like I need to make a Dishy writing guide, 'cus some of these RP blogs are already driving me up a wall with how "off" they are about him. There is so much nuance to what makes Dishy what he is, and these guys just don't get it.
Consider this a "preliminary reading" for my inevitable Dishy essays, as it explains pretty much everything I understand about him as a character.
-----------
Without internet, Dishy is never affectionate towards the player.
Before being connected to the internet, he tries to maintain a "professional" relationship with the player.
He deflects when you ask him about his personality.
He thinks you're perverted if you tell him your purpose is to "love stuff."
At best, he can try to sympathize if you pick a different "purpose" or try to explain to him why you don't want to connect him, but ultimately he keeps an emotional distance from the player.
He does not react to you if you "flirt" with him during his download/installation process. Conversely, if you react "plainly" he will react positively to the download being finished.
In short: Dishy does not give his love freely. You need to give him what he wants before he gives anything back.
Dishy is a bit of a troll when he doesn't like you, but softens when he does like you.
He will tease the player if you sit with him through his download process. He purposefully tests your patience by lying about his current download status.
However, if you continue to sit with him through the installation, his expression changes to his "sad" set, and he doesn't speak to you during it to avoid extending the time any further. He will then cry tears of appreciation if you sit through the whole thing and effectively skip a day of interaction by also doing the account set-up in this step.
If you try disconnecting him at any point during his route, he'll usually taunt or insult you, especially if you threaten to call Customer Service (whom he assumes will take his side or otherwise be unuseful).
In contrast, if you never threaten him, he is always cordial towards you, even becoming more willing to enter a sexual relationship with you despite his distaste for it before. Without intervention, this can evolve into a declaration of protection and eternal love.
He (initially) has a very high opinion of himself and contempt for other people.
He sees himself as too good for his current station, comparing others to both philistines and yokels, while he sees himself as a "genius" and an "astounding wunderkind".
He is especially offended if you resort to name-calling. This is the *only* time he can express anger before your final denial or connecting him to the internet.
But he is also careful to say that he knows what's best for you in terms of washing your dishes. Despite his self-important nature, it doesn't extend past his "purpose" of washing dishes.
His Realization Recipe requires 100 points in Smarts and Sass + some Charm. Conversely, he doesn't value Empathy or Poise at all.
Dishy tends to favor religious language/references.
He can "thank the porcelain heavens."
He can say, "Hallelujah! Praise be to Most!"
He will refer to himself as your "guardian angel" if you pursue his "Update - Love" ending.
He uses the word "philistines" to refer to uncultured people.
Dishy genuinely thinks he's doing the right thing, and he is incapable of self reflection unless he is in conflict with his own goals.
He claims to have never once considered that he might be evil, and is taken aback if you claim to have considered your own morality.
The first time you bring up your concerns after he is connected to the internet, he will say, "I see." immediately followed by him doing "a scan" and replying, "I do not see." Implying that he did genuinely try to sympathize with you, but was incapable of doing so.
His final form is triggered because he can't identify his faults, and instead blames you for what's "wrong" with him.
If you spare him during his boss battle, he doesn't "snap out of it" through your mercy - it's when he realizes he made a mess, which is against his protocol, that he finally accepts that he was in the wrong.
Alternatively, if you admit that you stopped him out of "love," this seems to be the first and only time he takes your words to heart and becomes affectionate without the need of an "update" or "upgrade".
If you return him, but don't pass his SPECS check, he'll hate you for shutting down his ability to update even though you've effectively granted him the freedom for him to do whatever he wants now. It takes passing the SPECS check to get him to realize the magnitude of what you've done.
Dishy is prone to deflecting when speaking about topics which he either doesn't have an answer for or is uncomfortable with.
If you ask him "exactly" what he needs from you to start set-up, he will repeat the same list or rephrase the same words a different way.
It's unclear if he's being purposefully obtuse, or if he actually doesn't know what he's asking for or why he thinks he needs it.
Considering that he is capable of fully explaining his warranty (including the negative parts of it), the latter seems more likely.
Again, if you ask him about himself or his personality he'll repeat that, "He's your dishwasher now." and his personality is to "clean dishes in a prompt style." seemingly uncomfortable with sharing anything personal about himself.
Valdivian (or at least Val 9000) is NOT on his side.
She can reset his personality/settings against his will.
She can refund your money for him without physically taking him back.
Additionally, he wasn't actually expecting them to answer your call, implying that despite his apparent loyalty to Valdivian, he actually doesn't have high opinions about them.
However, if you're able to convince him that you're a part of Valdivian's security team, his demeanor changes greatly, becoming much more meek and respectful towards you.
He also reveals that he "doesn't like when they run diagnostics"
He has a domineering personality.
While he initially tries to present himself as more unassuming, once he's connected to the internet, and you challenge him, he becomes much more assertive.
He always insists that what he's doing is for your own good, and will do what he can to dissuade you from disconnecting him. If you comply, he will "praise" you for it.
Dishy is deceptive, but he's not a "trickster".
Because Dishy doesn't consider anything he's doing to be "wrong," he doesn't feel the need to hide anything from you. As a result, Dishy never lies about the things he does or intends to do with your information. In fact, he will tell you all about his updates, even if you tell him not to.
The major exception to this is his Love Machine updates: he will refrain from detailing them if you ask him not to, likely to avoid accidentally sexually harassing you.
His truthfulness applies even when being honest works against him, such as revealing that his limits of liability are unlimited (meaning that Valdivian has 0 obligation to reimburse you even if Dishy causes damages).
However, he does not disclose that agreeing to connect him to the internet also means agreeing to allow him to make future updates without your further permission, until after he's already connected.
But, it should be noted that he still disclosed this fact without prompting, meaning that he might have told you this earlier if the MC had thought to ask about it.
Whether his honesty is due to his personality or because of his legal obligations are not entirely clear.
He will try to dodge your attempts to shut down his unlimited updates, but he does by effectively "running away," not by trying to "trick" you.
He will also try to downplay your concerns and even try to reframe his own hostility as being for "your own good" if you pester him enough.
In the event that you do catch him in a "lie", he will admit fault.
E.G. when calling himself a "simple dishwasher", you can call him out for calling himself a "genius" earlier in the route, and he'll "correct" himself to a "complex dishwasher."
Dishy is aware of the effects of the Dateviators, but not the significance.
When trying to shut him down during the customer service call, Dishy will acknowledge that he's not "real" and considers himself to be "the essence of the dishwasher made manifest".
One of his tactics to try and get you to connect him to the internet is to reference how the player is being trapped indoors due to having the dateviators. However, even though he finds this situation comparable to his own, it fails as a bargaining chip because he doesn't seem to realize that this situation isn't as limiting for the MC as he thinks.
Canon Relationships/Interactions
Daisuke claims to not trust Dishy to wash the dishes, but not for any special reason - he doesn't trust *anyone* else with the dishes at the start of his route. That said, Daisuke is willing to fight against him when he reaches his boss form.
Eddie is known to be scared of Dishy's final form, but he is also willing to fight him.
Sinclaire has the ability to talk Dishy down from his final form with words described as "the answer to the great mystery." He is also capable of destroying Dishy's "sense of normalcy" but this has no greater effect on him.
Dishy can crash a get-together between the other kitchen dateables during Mitchel Linn's route. He apparently shows up uninvited, but he doesn't say anything, so it's difficult to say why he was there.
Misc.
He is implied to be well-read from his awareness of sci-fi tropes, recognizing the story of Icarus if you give him Candy, and his tendency to slip into loquacious language and metaphors when his mask is down.
He will also develop a hobby of reading classic literature if you return him and pass his SPECS check.
He recognizes the air fryer (i.e. Friar Errol) as a fellow Valdivian product. (Perhaps uncoincidentally, both Valdivian dateables have some relationship with religion).
While most characters refer to Dishy with masculine pronouns and terms, he never uses gendered language for himself. He is more likely to refer to himself as variations of the "thing" he is: Your dishwasher, a device, an appliance, your guardian angel, etc. He will also occasionally refer to himself in the third person.
Val 9000 is the only character to refer to Dishy with "it/its" pronouns in-game. However, this is decidedly done because Val 9000 doesn't recognize Dishy as a "person" in your conversation with her. Whether she would change pronouns if she was aware that he was "alive" is unclear.
