Hello. Hi. Just found your blog and by extension Kale. Love the use of texture in your art and also the colours. But also I have perhaps grown smitten with Kale. Are there any fun details you'd be up for sharing about him? Or his relationship with Emmrich?

Oh my god, I'm sorry, this message was so long ago, and I'm in such a never-ending cycle of life-complicating events that I simply forgot to reply right away.

So, Kale de Riva, a few quick facts: 1 - He can't swim because he nearly drowned as a child. Maybe he would have learned, but he's just afraid of deep water. 2 - He's obsessed with cleaning. "Keeping the house clean is the only thing we can control in life." 3 - He can't cook because it's simply unnecessary, but with Emmrich, he'll start learning, not for himself, but for him. 4 - He loves reading books; he has quite a large library at home. Books were the first shared interest that began to strengthen his bond with Emmrich. 5 - He looks much "spicy" than he actually is. In reality, all an orphan raised to be a murderer needs is tenderness and to be loved for who he is. 6 - Hates raisins.

I think Emmrich, given his hopeless romantic nature, would be so affected by nonsexual intimacy. He has almost a religious experience the first time Rook washes his hair. Shock, at first, as Rook reaches for him, that melts into indescribable softness: he tilts his head back, eyes closing, and completely lets go. Rook's hands slow, watching him. Softer. Gentler.

The world is such a lovely place when every small gesture can become a source of such profound love.
