personally I like to think steve’s birthday isn’t actually July 4th but someone asked him when his birthday was when he was doing his little show tour thingy and he just said it as an accident and/or a panic response in a bid to seem even more patriotic and everyone believed him and now it’s like 100 years later and he’s too deep in the lie to back out now bc he knows all the avenger’s would fucking publicly roast him if he admitted july 4th wasn’t actually his birthday- like he would literally never live that down- so he lives his life in fear that some bitch ass historian is gonna find his birth certificate and expose him

Jupiter is Closed - Quarantine Inspired Jimmy Darling Oneshot AHS
Summary: Jupiter is quarantined, but that won’t stop Jimmy Darling from seeing you in person.

Authors Note: I hope everyone is safe and doing well during this difficult period in history. It can be a bit overwhelming at times, and it’s okay if you aren’t being as productive or organized as you’d hope to be. What really matters is that you look after yourself, and if that means watching Netflix and reading fan fiction all day, that is completely okay. I hope this brings a bit of comfort, I enjoyed writing it. I love you all, stay safe, sweet-lil-psycho
Jupiter was closed. Quite literally. The entire town; all the shops, all the parks, every business and building had closed its doors. No one knew entirely why, but men in black suits and ties had come with federal orders and suddenly the entire town was under lock-down.
It was like something out of a storybook. Reality shifted in a matter of days and we were suddenly expected to accept this new normal. And to make matters worse, there was no news on how long this would last.
“Don’t forget bread, we haven’t had any bread this week” your mother called out from the living room as your father left to do the shopping.
“Because they haven’t had any bread. Perhaps you should call your sister for the recipe? At least that will give you something to do during the day” He called back from the doorway
“Harold!” she shouted indignantly
“Oh now honey, you know I didn’t mean it like that” Your father took his hat off for a moment and stepped into the living room
“You know, if I’d have known I would had to spend this much time with you before we had gotten married, I would have married Scotty Baker!” your mother lashed out, not looking up from her knitting
“I know, honey.” He replied calmly
“He would have gotten me bread” she continued to grumble
“I know, honey.” He called out behind himself before closing the front door behind him.
Tension had increased significantly between the two of them over the last few weeks. They loved each other, truly they did, but spending this much time together had taken a toll.
“Never marry, y/n. All men are trouble” She turned to you now that your father had left
“Yes, mama.” You replied calmly, not bothering to argue.
Besides, she would not be pleased to hear about the handsome boy that you had been running around with before all of this had happened. She didn’t much like the freak-show on the outskirts of town to begin with, but to know that her daughter had been smitten with one of ‘those freaks’ would have just about killed the woman.
“May I go to my room, mama?” You asked, knowing it was best to simply leave her to her thoughts when she whipped herself up into a mood
“It is just about the only place you can go, y/n. What has the world come to! And in Jupiter of all places!” She exclaimed
Assuming that her response was intended as permission, you left the room and went upstairs to your bedroom. You were thankful to at least have this space to yourself...or at least you thought you did.
Splayed out casually on the bed was the very same boy that you hadn’t told your mother about. He held one of his mutated ‘lobster-claw’ fingers over his smirking lips, indicating for you to keep quiet.
You didn’t make a sound as you closed the bedroom door behind you. Turning back to the trespasser, you could see the window was wide open.
“Jimmy! My room is on the second story!” You whisper-yelled, walking over to close the window and pull the curtains
“I just wanted to check up on you, doll.” He flashed a heart-stopping grin as he spoke, acting as if this was all within the realm of normal human behavior
“Jimmy...” You sighed, unable to even find the words. Instead you just stood in the middle of your room, staring at him.
And then all at once you processed the scene in front of you. Jimmy Darling, the handsome rough-around-the-edges boy with a heart of gold that you had been sweet on all summer, despite knowing you would not have your parents blessing, was right there. In your bed. His shoes kicked off on the carpet and his shirt unbuttoned. Looking every bit like a fallen angel who had made his way onto your duvet.
“I don’t bite” He practically purred, watching the way you had been looking at him
You felt a pulse below your stomach that made your knees weak and you looked away, biting your lip. This was the last thing you expected when you came upstairs.
“Y/n?” He asked with a hint of concern, probably wondering if he had gone too far by sneaking into your room
He hadn’t though. You’d imagined this more than once. All these days alone, unable to even speak to him on the phone because your parents were always home. Thoughts of Jimmy appearing in your room had crossed your mind more and more often lately.
“Jimmy, this is ridiculous” you laughed, a smile stretching across your lips as you raced up to the bed and leapt onto the spot next to him.
“No, what’s ridiculous is two-story houses. What do you even need all this space for? This place has more square feet than all our caravans put together.” He exclaimed
“Well no one asked you to climb through my window, Jimmy” I pointed out
“I wasn’t going to come all the way here only to turn around, doll. I’ve missed that pretty face far too much” He smiled, brushing some stray hair behind your ear.

Billionaire CEOs and multinational corporations soliciting donations during a pandemic: bad because they’re the least financially affected and in some cases have seen record profits etcetera; should definitely have enough cash to pay employees without demanding the cash-strapped public pay for it
Nonprofits seeing a massive uptick in traffic soliciting donations during a pandemic: logical, coherent, acceptable because it’s their only source of income and honestly ao3 has done more for me than bezos ever will; nonprofit so UNLIKELY to have the cash to cover increased server traffic etc even with primarily volunteer staff
Listen. I am reading ALL THE FANFIC right now. The world is on fire. I need escapism for my sanity and I bet a lot of other people do, too. So pardon the fuck outta me while I *shovels money at ao3*
The AO3 donation drives happen the same time every year? Am I wrong in this? Because it seems to me–hang on.
Ok I just did a quick search in my email cuz I never trash ANYTHING and yeah. Like clockwork, AO3 does a donation drive in April and October.
They didn’t plan this BECAUSE of the pandemic, it’s a scheduled drive to raise the funds to keep a site keeping SO MANY PEOPLE SANE functioning.
And no one–exactly 0 people–are forced to donate. If you can, great. If you can’t and wish you could, share posts or write things to incentivize donations.
This is not–and never is with AO3–a money grab. It’s just them doing what they always do. Which reminds me, I need to go donate.
The pandemic has made a lot of negative changes, however I'm not out buying a coffee twice a week or paying for public transport, so I'll be damned if I can't spare some change for the people who are making this period of time easier on all of us
I leave a comment on every single fic I read. Sometimes when I read published books I go and leave a comment somewhere the author can find it. Granted, I literally majored in ‘leaving comments on fics’ (English Education), but once you start doing it it just becomes second nature. Now you’re gonna go to the Ozymandias school of leaving comments:
Problem: I can’t leave kudos again.
Beginner: This is a second/third/fourth Kudos
Advanced: This is my second/third/fortieth time reading this, I still love it so much. Here are a few new things I noticed. I like the way you personally do x, y, z compared to other authors I’ve read (in this ship/genre/fandom).
Problem: I don’t know what to say :(
Beginner: Just list what you did to read this fic. “I stayed up late reading this”, “I read this on a crowded train”, “this kept me company while sick”.
Advanced: X,Y,Z parts made me get butterflies, and I had a physical reaction to this part of the story, I squealed outloud when characters did x,y,z. I blushed at this part. I laughed out loud here. Whatever.
Problem: I’m embarrassed to leave a comment (what if I annoy the author?)
Beginner: Short answer: you won’t EVER annoy the author (unless you’re needlessly mean) But to start, be generic, you don’t have to spill your soul in the comments section. “I liked this” “I enjoyed reading this” “nice fic”.
Advanced: This really meant a lot to me that you wrote this. This is something I feel like I’ve always wanted to read. This fic hit me in all the right places. Etc.
Problem: I don’t know how to express myself/my experience
Beginner: My beginners go to is to highlight a line, put that in your comment and say “i liked this” or to identify basic emotions you had while reading and comment those “this made me happy” “this part made me sad” “i almost cried” “you made me laugh”
Advanced: “Highlighted line” This line made me smile because it has to do with character development/it’s really romantic/it’s so unique/it’s moving. Sometimes I don’t highlight a line at all, I just talk about the stuff I’ve noticed were unique to the fic. “I love the way you did this particular thing with this character”.
This? This is an amazing post. This is the Captain Awkward of commenting posts—it addresses all your fears directly and gives you actionable scripts for each one.
