“I’m not sure we have a choice at the moment,” Siofra hadn’t left the island since she had arrived and she didn’t plan on leaving any time soon but she could understand why others wanted to leave.
“Don’t remind me,” He shook his head, trying not to sound too bitter about the whole situation and failing miserably. Sebastian wasn’t going to ruin his own evening by moping about the situation- he absolutely was not.

As gracefulness had never been something she was gifted with, Millie had little desire to dance. It did look like they were having a lot of fun. “Oh no, not unless we’re looking for a broken ankle by the end of the night,” she found herself laughing through her answer as she glanced next to him. “Taking a breather? You look like you’ve worked up quite the sweat.” Not that he was actually sweating but the exhaustion was clear on him.
“I love dancing. I don’t think i’ve been off the dance floor since I got here.”
Not dancing at a party was something that Sebastian couldn’t fathom in the slightest- it was the best part of going out, other than getting drunk with people he didn’t know and didn’t care if he embarrassed himself in front of. But he could respect that not everyone liked getting other people’s sweat on them or having elbows shoved in uncomfortable places.
“Didja come just to watch everything?”
Millicent loved watching the people mingling around her. The masks adorned by the others were gorgeous and she felt like she walked into a time long in the past. Icaria was truly a beautiful place to be, even if she didn’t think about it often. Her eyes couldn’t help but wander around the grand room as she sipped on a glass of wine. There was little desire in her to approach anyone else. She was perfectly content watching the fun happening around her.
Sebastian threw himself into the chair beside the girl with a huge sigh, happy to be off his feet for the moment. He’d been dancing since he arrived to the party and a momentary break was sorely needed. The poppy mask that curled over his cheekbones highlighted the flush of exertion that blanketed his skin, the evidence of his labors. He loved a party and he grinned at the girl he’d sat down next to, nodding his head at the dance floor.
“Not dancing?”

Siofra gave a small smile as they started to dance. She was still tense but there was a little less anxiousness in her voice when she replied. “Well welcome to the island then. I’ve been here for about ten years.”
“Damn, ten years? I dunno if i’m even going to manage one!”
He laughed, a little bit of a sour note to the sound that spoke of the truth of his statement. For all the island’s lovely scenery and nice people, he absolutely couldn’t wait to be gone from it’s shores.

“I’m Siofra, I don’t think we’ve met.” She replied putting one hand on his shoulder and taking the other. The gentle touch at her waist made her smile, she had been almost certain the young man was going to try and be over-confident or cocky.
“I’m pretty new to the island,” He said cheerfully, starting a slow two-step that wouldn’t require him to glance down at his feet every few seconds. “I’m still working on meeting everyone.”
Sebastian had invited her because she seemed a little lonely, sitting and watching the dancing, but it was a bonus that he’d get to meet someone new as well.

Looking between the man’s outstretched hand and his face Siofra gave a sigh before standing and taking his hand. “I have a feeling you won’t leave me alone until I dance so we’d best get this over with.”
Sebastian led her to the dance floor, weaving between other couples before turning to face her. One hand rested lightly on her waist, barely there, and he let her situate herself. He hadn’t been joking- he had no idea how to dance, so this was going to be fun.
“I’m Sebastian,”
“Oh no, I don’t dance.” Siofra hadn’t even been to a party in years. The idea of getting up and dancing wasn’t one she reacted to well. She hadn’t even wanted to attend, only going at the insistence of her friends.
Sebastian remained where he was with his hand outstretched, smiling beneath his mask. He’d in no way been on the island long enough to be able to tell who was who underneath the masks and it was freeing to not know who he was speaking with at any given moment.
“Neither do I! We can step all over each other!”

— THE young woman laughed as excitement began to replace her fatigue. “I don’t know, I just felt like living life on its truest edge today, you know?” she bantered with a slight shrug. Brown waves tousled as she moved towards the higher part of the counter. Resting her head on her hand, she continued, “I’m just kidding. I just feel so exhausted today. I didn’t even do anything yet! I just ran for like 3 hours, that’s it!” she exclaimed with the most exaggerated hand gestures, “has it been busy here today?”
“Shit, three hours?”
He turned around so fast he nearly knocked the cup of coffee clean off the counter with the gesture, saving it on the edge by the grace of whatever god was looking down on them at the time. Only when he was sure the cup was secure did he keep pouring into it, keeping one eye on the level of coffee inside and one on the girl across from him. The idea of running for three hours was absolutely, positively, unthinkable for Sebastian.
“Literally what the hell?”

“You know what…” Catalina started. She was completely and entirely pissed off at the situation. “I’m beyond frustrated by it.” She took a breath before she started yelling about how awful the situation was. “It’s bullshit.”
“I’m kind of jealous of you. You can actually do something about it.”
He had absolutely no choice but to sit on his hands and wait while people who were better equipped and more knowledgeable tried to solve the issue.

As soon as they sat down, Melrose’s smile warmed even more. He inhaled slowly and exhaled as well, hoping that would help the other breathe a little easier too.
“As someone who fumbles a little with the things I handle daily as well…namely books, if you’ve passed by Icaria Books before? I almost had a pile of new books fall in the hallway. I’m a mess,” he laughed. “Icaria seems to be full of natural disasters. Torrential rain –” he gestured at their wet selves, “or rockslides with books. Have you been here long? I don’t think I’ve seen you before.”
“I’m pretty new- it’s been like 3 weeks since I got here? I haven’t really had time to explore the town at all, too busy unpacking and getting myself settled in, yaknow?”
Sebastian had only been to a few places- the grocery store, the coffee shop, and a bar down the street when he got off work for the night. He’d wanted to visit the book store for a while now, but whenever he got the time, it seemed like work needed him to come in, or there was a torrential rain outside, or some other annoying situation would conspire to stop him. If he’d been a little more used to the whole demigod thing, he might have wondered if there was a god above who had something against him getting books.
“You work at the bookstore? That’s really cool!”

“Pleasure Sebastian,” A soft nod with a smile as she shook her hand before she busying herself with the fruit. It was refreshing… Not just the fruit but also a new face, it felt like traveling again. The chance to see so many faces, she missed the choices you had with that life.
“You’ll have to see it before saying that. My mind is just as messy so I’m not sure how either can work together.” teasing a bit, “I never understood either – I’d love to have a pet but if I can’t keep my home clean it doesn’t make much sense.”
“Aw man, I am not responsible enough for a pet.”
It was a fundamental truth he’d accepted about himself long ago- Sebastian was absolutely incapable of taking care of anything larger than a goldfish, and even then the poor fish had deserved a better life than the one he’d provided for it. He could do people: he’d helped his mom out with his little sisters a lot when they were growing up. But pets felt absolutely out of his league.
“Whenever I got the longing for a pet, i’d go to the zoo and stare at the animals there until it went away.”
Couldn’t do that here though, trapped on the island as they were.

“It’s for your safety. I understand wanting to go, but you might not come back.” Catalina did understand. She wanted to leave the island sometimes. The tropical paradise was beautiful, but it felt like a vacation that had overstayed its welcome. “I think if that were the case, demi-gods would disappear from the island.”
“Yeah, I just...”
He hadn’t even wanted to come here in the first place. When his long-absent father had appeared to tell him he was in mortal danger, he’d brushed the man off completely, bitter about his disappearance years ago. It had taken his mother calling him in a panic, begging him to go to the island so that he’d be safe, to actually make him come. And now Sebastian was here, still completely resentful of the situation, still frustrated and annoyed and waiting for his chance to leave.
“This sucks. It really, really sucks. How do you manage to not get frustrated about this?”
He hated that he sounded like a petulant teenager.

“Wasn’t awful, why’s that?” she asked taking a sip from her own sort of fruity drink. “Well, my awful giver of life somehow managed to find my new number so there’s that. Oh and I fell earlier today and screwed up my knee so that was fun for me.”
“Want me to kill her for you?”
Sebastian wasn’t sure how he’d manage it, trapped here on the island as they were, but he was sure he could think up some elaborate, convoluted scheme to murder Raven’s mother by telephone. Maybe hire a hitman or find someone on the island with powers that worked over long distance.

He gratefully took the towel and coffee with the signs of a small smile, he started wiping over everything again, just to make sure it was dry. “You don’t have to keep apologising, accidents happen and you’ve definitely made up for it. I won’t be reporting you to the manager or anything.” Henry wasn’t always the best at calming people, but he was doing his best. “Actually, what’s your name? I’ll tell your manager that I had excellent customer service” he finished with a nod and placed the towel down on the table
“Oh, man, you don’t need to do that!”
Sebastian was overtired and stressed, and just the idea that the other man would do something so absolutely sweet for him was just a tad too much. Tears pricked at the corner of his eyes, just a little mist of gratitude that he quickly blinked away, hoping the other wouldn’t notice them at all. It would be too embarrassing to cry in front of a stranger like he was five year old again, lost and alone in a mall or grocery store.
“You’re too nice, seriously.”

— WITHOUT hesitating, Reigne leaned in to hear out the other’s story. Her curiosity arose, leading her to a decision, “I don’t know whether you’re trying to scare me out of ordering it, but I really want one now,” she replied in the same hushed tone leaning back, “as much as you’re allowed to give me, please.” She gave a slightly mischievous smile and looked around at the empty cafe before bantering again, “If it’s any consolation, no one’s around to blame you if I do drop dead.”
“I would never try to scare you out of a decision. I’m simply warning you of the risks involved, like any responsible barista would do.”
Sebastian winked at Reigne before he turned away to grab a large cup, flipping a tap behind the bar to begin filling it with smooth, dark coffee. He was pretty sure the man who’d died had a heart condition or some other complicating factor, so he wasn’t actually too worried about killing the girl with the coffee he was preparing for her.
“So what’s got you so exhausted you’re willing to risk death?”

He’d had his condition under control for many years now, with a careful balance of medication and diet that worked together to keep the sleepiness at bay during the daylight hours. The doctors had diagnosed him with narcolepsy when he was a child, and he’d been living with the effects ever since; only recently had Sebastian realized that he didn’t have narcolepsy in the traditional sense. Instead, he was suffering the effects of having the god of sleep for a father- just another unwanted facet in his fractured relationship with Hypnos.
The knowledge had made him spiral slightly, going off the regimen he’d used for years if only to spite the half of him that he despised with a passion. The sleepiness was back, maybe not as strong as it had been when he was a child, but no less damaging to his daily life.
Coming home to see someone curled up on their doorstep was probably a surprise, but Sebastian didn’t have much control over when and where he nodded off these days.

He was known to lose his temper from time to time- Sebastian felt things deeply and truly, and his emotions had been running high ever since he arrived on the stupid island. Not a fan of his new imprisonment, as he saw it, he’d taken to reading texts that he knew would make him angry. If it got out a few of his frustrations, redirecting them to the ideas on the pages instead of the general situation around him, he found he could deal with them better.
Not healthily, mind. But better.
With a thump he closed the book in front of him, glaring down at the picture of the author on the back cover as though the man would personally feel the glare through the page if he stared hard enough. It quickly wasn’t enough though; with a small grunt of rage, Sebastian cocked his arm back and threw the book as hard as he could away from him. The park he was lying in was empty, the grass underneath him matted and dense from the hour he’d spent perusing the damned thing’s pages.
At least, he’d thought it was empty. The cry of pain from the unfortunate someone he’d hit with the book said otherwise.
