i heard your requests are open.. something something with emo jade being mentioned perhaps?
“Absolute blindness” with Jade Leech
Thrifting with him… except he thinks EVERYTHING could be a good find.
Note: I AM EMO, but I had no clue how to go about this. Hopefully this suffices (because we love anti-consumerism and repurposing)
ALSO in this fic, I wrote it as if the reader KNOWS about thrifting, but not necessarily being super invested in it. (I love secondhand stuff, but not everyone does).
Obviously, you knew Jade Leech was an eccentric individual before even agreeing to date him. You knew he had a weird way of interacting with others, and even weirder interests to match. Because of that, you were more interested than surprised when he asked you what "thrifting" was.
When you asked him where he heard about it from, he placed a hand over his chest in a phony show of offense. "I simply overheard my peers discussing it, dear. I assure you I wasn't up to anything nefarious. Please don't think so lowly of me." His theatrics knew no end, per usual.
Dismissing his dramatic behavior, you explained it to him as well as you could. Even though he'd grin when you seemed to struggle forming the right words, he paid close attention while you spoke. You described that the items you find are secondhand or pre-owned, donations from the community usually. You could find really good-quality clothes for a small price, or you could see some that are so bad it's funny. Also a lot of people go because it's cheaper and better for the environment. It keeps old books, toys, clothes, and things alike from going into landfills and gives them a second chance.
He waited patiently for you to conclude your explanation before choosing to probe you for more answers. In the way only he knew best, he wanted to interrogate you after you already concluded your ramble.
"Have you ever gone thrifting?"
"Do you believe I'd find something to freak Floyd out?" You answered maybe. Jade could freak Floyd out easily on the average day as himself, so who was to say for horrible thrift finds?
"Are there certain scum err- needy people, that would see the low price and resell good items for a higher price?" You answered yes. A certain friend of his came to mind when he asked you that, and his smirk gave away that you were right.
"Would you be kind enough to take me on an adventure like that.. someday? I'd understand if it's too arduous of a task for you. But..." sniffle "it would be delightful, I'm sure."
And that was how you got dragged along to a secondhand store. Rather than simply going down the aisles that had his clothing size, he led you down every single aisle. Instead of moving the hangers in a small section to look at the tops, he would grab random ones and pull them off the rack and ask for your input. In an aisle of extra small-small shirts and sweaters, your 190cm (6'2") boyfriend was asking you if absolutely HIDEOUS shirts would suit him.
"Jade, these aren't even your size. They'd probably fit like a crop top at best."
He pulled out an obnoxious orange t-shirt right then. It had a poorly drawn fish on it, which looked like it was drawn with a permanent marker. "It's unkind to tell your beloved that you think he'd be ugly in a cropped shirt. You could learn a thing or two from me about manners, don't you think?" Before you could argue he had the audacity to hold the shirt up to you. "With this... aquatic creature, it's as if you're wearing a shirt of me. Don't you agree?"
He mutters something with Riddle's name, and puts it back before pulling you with him once again. He hadn't let go of your hand since you arrived, and he'd squeeze it and pout if you even TRIED to go anywhere.
When you reached an aisle with your size of clothing, you'd swipe through while looking for nothing in particular. Jade watched in awe. You were looking at so many shirts in a short span of time. He looked at the aisles you guys still had left with a furrowed brow.
For the first time since you arrived at the store, Jade let go of your hand. He wandered away, which you tried not to think too hard about. The horror you felt when he came back with, not a basket, but an entire shopping cart.
He had asked you how busy you were for the day, before guilt-tripping you to explore this new experience with him. You weren't stuck doing any chores, or participating in any school activities, or planning to see your friends.
It was hours in the store. Entire hours of you carrying on with his whims because of that ridiculous and unfiltered joy he had. Every so often, you'd hint at potentially leaving. Every time that happened, he very directly shut you down and accused you of rushing him out of jealousy. He was finding miscellaneous objects like they were hidden treasures, (even though he was staring in awe at most things he saw) and you weren't. And you'd sigh, because what else was there to do?
At one point, he showed you two sweaters with a horrible pun on each. He said they would be perfect for Azul and Floyd. After a few seconds of silence, you checked to see if he was serious. He covered his laugh poorly with a cough. "They'd both much rather die before wearing something pre-owned, but perhaps they'd appreciate the sentimental value behind such a gift." He tilted his head at you with barely-maintained composure. "Surely they'd be joyful to know it was from both of us." The concept of his twin blaming you for receiving something so ridiculous was enough for you to shut his idea down.
By the end of the day, he gave the cashier a generous tip for not biting his head off when they finished bagging the last trinket that was "too lonely to ditch," in his words.
He carried six separate shopping bags with a proud smile on his face. The walk back to campus was quiet in a peaceful way, minus the rustling from his poor financial-ish and judgemental decisions.
"Did you really need to get all that clothing for yourself?"
"Not just for myself. Some of them are tokens of appreciation for my friendships."
"It's still kinda excessive, Jade."
"But if they're styled correctly, it couldn't be a waste."
"Do you even know how you could style it?"
"No, but I'm sure you could help me. Right?"
You wanted to argue, but instead you wrapped a hand around his wrist and kept walking. He was happy. And that mattered more than the dread of having to help him later.
