the last day of my period always fills me with such feminine whimsy. my locs looks better, my skin glows, my mood is magically lifted, and food taste better.

I’ve been hanging out with a friend and discussing things I’ve learned from movies and which movies resonate with me the most. I’ve strictly shown psychological thrillers and movies that are bizarre and made to make people uncomfortable. Somehow we got on the topic of romance movies, and how she’s interested in the movies I find romantic.

Which made me think about the movies that resonated with me like Breathless by Godard and Yi Yi by Yang and the Piano Teacher by Hanake. None of them are romantic genre wise, but they resonate with me and my experiences with love. They are all intense power struggles. Breathless has its delusions of grandeur, Yi Yi and its unrequited desires, and the Piano Teachers theme of repression and release.

They aren’t romantic, but they are true experiences. The lingering stares, life moving on but feelings still remaining, and the repression of desire turning into power struggle kinks. It’s all there in what I find captivating. They may not have happy endings, but they are true to my reality and shape what I find romantic. And the willingness to submit to a feeling and let it consume you entirely is romantic to me, complete submission. Submission to the feeling and where it could take you.

I think what I’m saying is I have an idea.
