i was the scary thing in the dark.
tolly driver is a good-hearted screwup in a small town in texas in 1989 when, after a prank gone wrong, he's cursed to be a slasher seeking revenge. he doesn't want to do this, but a curse is a curse and the genre has strict rules.

The science fiction writer is supposed to take a trend or phenomenon of the here-and-now, purify and intensify it for dramatic effect, and extend it into the future. "If this goes on, this is what will happen." A prediction is made. Method and results much resemble those of a scientist who feeds large doses of a purified and concentrated food additive to mice, in order to predict what may happen to people who eat it in small quantities for a long time.

i think if the emily wilde books were adapted into movies that joe alwyn would be a good bambleby.
alright! i’m going to answer the swiftiereader questions on main!
1. what do you think of the letter emily received? do you think it’s magic? do you think brambleby is human?
i think the letter is interesting. it being magic and also about brambleby wanting to join emily is very interesting to me! i feel like it’s a start in a domino set. if emily is right and brambleby isn’t human, i think he’ll join her or he will become a part of the bigger novels plot as it reveals itself.
2. what do you think of emily’s character? how do you think her reaction to the town will affect her throughout the novel?
i think she’s interesting. she seems very normal/plain now, mainly cause it’s only the first two days. i think how she’s interacting with the town more as a fellow research subject is interesting as it’s very inhuman… she’s treating it less like people and more like research. which makes sense as she’s an academic, but it’s interesting to me.
3. do you think if emily’s relationship with her parents? do you think it will be mentioned later or developed upon?
i think it’s standard boiling plate for a fantasy series protagonist. i’ll be interested to see where it goes from here and how it develops, as there has to be more to it as she started studying at 15.
4. what do you think of the tavern scene? which towns folk will be important later on?
it honestly made me think of stardew valley at first. i’m most interested in the girl who is described as a recovering addict and is “boneless”. i’m curious where she goes from here and want a book about her!
5. what songs does the book remind you of so far? even if just one line fits.
down bad actually. while that’s about aliens i feel like how fae myths deal with humans returning to our world fits similarly with what taylor was discussing in the song, also adds to “i saw fairy lights in the mist” line in so long, london.

As we’ve finished the first week of March we can now discuss the first four chapters of Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries! To get the discussion rolling off we’ve come up with a few discussion questions! We’ll be answering them tonight and throughout next week as we read the next four chapters.

Hello Swiftiereaders!
We’d like to formally announce that the winning book was Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries!
The Admins decided to make a few changes to how the blog is run and how we read the book. We’ll make a formal post later but a few things we wanted to say:
First, we’ll be reading this book for two months. Our goal is to allow people enough time with their busy schedules to read and participate with the group.
Second, we’ll be doing weekly discussions about the book. We’ll handle this by reading 3-4 chapters a week so we can hold a discussion about the book without spoiling it. The discussions will be conducted by one of our admins! And if you miss a week that’s okay! You can join in the following week or whenever you get caught up! We want everyone to participate and we know that life gets in the way sometimes (unfortunately).
Third, we want to do events regarding the book we’re reading! Such as editing prompt or ask games! Maybe even a bingo night… we want reading the book and engaging with it to be fun! We want everyone to enjoy reading and the blog!
That’s all for now. For the first week of March we want to discuss the first 4 chapters. We’ll hold a discussion night on Saturday, March 7th. We hope everyone enjoys the book and engaging with the blog! You’ll also see periodic posts from the admins regarding the book. Also feel free to send us asks about it in anyway!
