"With your million dollar couch" /// "You fancy me not fancy stuff"
for the first time, whatās past is pastā¦
the smell of smoke would hang around this long ācause i knew everything when i was young
Let's just appreciate how she rhymes "cardigan" and "car again"
my favourite folkloreĀ lyrics (pt. 1)
the reason why the 1 socks me in the gut every time I hear it is because sheās trying so hard to be casual about it, from the bouncy beat, to a lot of the lyrics (āit wouldāve been funā / āit wouldāve been sweetā / āIām doing good, Iām on some new sh*tā / āI thought I saw you at the bus stop I didnāt thoughā etc) but there are moments when you hear how invested she was, looking for validation that it was important to the other person too (āwe were something, donāt you think so?ā) and just how badly she wanted this to work out (āresist the temptation to ask you, if one thing had been different, would everything be different?ā / ārosĆ© flowing with your chosen familyā / ādigging up the grave another timeā) and the juxtaposition of pretending to be over it but clearly still being haunted by your what-ifs is really what makes the song
You were my town, now Iām in exile, seeinā you out
You were my crown, now Iām in exile
itās quiet uptown - hamilton (2015) // epiphany - taylor swift (2020)
Me realizing Taylor is not going to release August as a single in August just like she didnāt release Cruel Summer as a single in Summer

When you are young, they assume you know nothing But I knew youād linger like a tattoo kiss I knew youād haunt all of my what-ifs The smell of smoke would hang around this long āCause I knew everything when I was young
