hc that as far as english goes, deku is better at holding a steady conversation in one. his accent isn’t half bad, but he struggles in writing it down.

in comparison, kacchan’s written english is flawless and he understands fluently, but he can only speak in broken english. he’s got “fuck you” and “die” down perfectly though.

They’re having an argument about something stupid―particularly Deku doing something stupid―when it slips out in a frustrated: “Because you should already know I love you, dumbass!”

And they both freeze.

Deku stares at him in shock and Katsuki is absolutely mortified, but he doesn’t run away. He stays stubbornly in place, his fight or flight instincts having always pointed towards combat even as he screams internally at how Deku has apparently chosen this time of all times to not broadcast every single thought that passes his shitty nerd brain.

He doesn’t know how long it’s been, but he does know that it’s taking Deku an insulting amount of time processing Katsuki’s words. His nerves were on the verge of snapping when Deku’s face finally shifts from surprise to a look of realisation.

Katsuki is tense, bracing for the humiliating worst when Deku says, “Oh. I love you too.”

It’s his turn to stare. 

Oh? Oh? What the fuck was that reaction.

Then it dawns on him. “Did you just decide that right now?”

“Um… yes?” Deku smiles sheepishly, rubbing at the back of his neck.

“I’m gonna kill you.” Katsuki says flatly. “And then myself after, for being stupid enough to like you.”  

“Kacchan, that isn’t very romantic.”

“I DON’T WANT TO HEAR THAT FROM YOU.”

people who still call kacchan abusive confuse me. deku literally says over and over how kacchan is one of his biggest inspirations and deku loves him so much. you dont even have to remotely ship bakudeku, but to say things like that, is pushing away dekus feelings just as much as when kacchan told deku he could never be a hero.
