Wednesday, June 20, 2012 continued.. One of the last stops before leaving Illinois, the Luna Cafe goes back before there was a Route 66. Built in 1924, the business has a storied history, hosting the usual Chicago gangsters. (Al Capone seems to have spent more time on Route 66 than any of the rest of us ever will.) At one time, this old bar had a den of iniquity upstairs and a gambling casino downstairs. I’m sure local patrons of the restaurant on the main floor did not notice a thing. “The Fine Art photography of Frank Romeo.” Look for my Route 66 Galleries here: http://frank-romeo.pixels.com/
Loy Allen Bowlin: The Original Rhinestone Cowboy.
Bowlin was an outsider artist who decorated his home and himself, including his dentures, in rhinestones. After his death in 1995, his home was nearly demolished, but was saved at the last minute and put in an art center in Wisconsin.
Here’s a great bio of The Original Rhinestone Cowboy.
Blackwatch McCree commission for @theashenphoenix …ehm, do I really need to say anything? Dehehehe! Thank you for commissioning me! *3*

Lightning remembers the old days at Blue Mesa, Arizona (USA).
Yeah Southern Gothic is the best thing since sliced bread but do you know what I wanna see more of? Southwestern gothic. Creepy desert towns, alien lore and unexplained lights, bones and spurs and burnt-our oak scrub everywhere. Cattle rancher blood feuds, neo-Apache and postmodern-Navajo mythology, Spanish architecture and Americana dreams in equal states of crumbling disrepair. Californian curses and New Mexican ghost towns and long stretches of road with nothing but the deceptive moon or hazy heat mirages for company.
Rhyolite, Nevada is one of the best ghost town sites in the United States. Part of the Death Valley National Park, it’s a fascinating place to visit. Perhaps the imposing stone and concrete construction of slightly more than 100 years ago suggests strength and permanence, but it’s hard to imagine a town more ruined. Photos taken April 2, 2010.
