"carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man."
Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky
“Life is not perfect, individuals will always be flawed, but empathy – the sheer inability to see those around them as anything other than people too – conquers all, in the end.”
lot of takes along the lines of "you don't have to relate to a story to enjoy it" and while I agree, I also wanna point out that you can relate to characters without having shared identities. I love sinners. I am not a black ex-gangster in the deep south in the jazz age but I can relate to having a younger family member who I am very protective of. that's kind of a whole thing. you don't need to look like someone to recognize your shared humanity. we all love, we all cry, we all see red and do stupid shit in a fit of anger. sure, you don't need to Relate tm to the story but also a lot of you have some weirdly narrow definitions of relatability. dig a little deeper.
