If you live in the US, you should not be freaking out about nuclear war with North Korea in a “we’re all going to die” way. DPRK has one rocket that can reach the continental US, it’s barely gotten functional, and they have no warheads small enough to be carried by that rocket. They can theoretically hit Hawaii and Alaska, but Hawaii is a small, long-range target and Alaska has very low population density, so attacks there would likely be ineffective.

That’s not to say that you shouldn’t be freaking out about nuclear war with North Korea. It’s to say that you should stop being so fucking self-centered about it.

We’re not going to die. If we nuke North Korea, we’ll wipe out thousands of noncombatants, just like we did in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Even in an “ideal” outcome for that first strike, where Kim goes down immediately, his military apparatus will retaliate — against South Korea and probably Japan. This hypothetical nuclear exchange will kill millions of civilians who, surprise surprise, live far away and look sort of not-European. Then we’ll spend the rest of our long, non-incinerated lives bickering with each other over whether it was cool of us to start that fight.

If you want to speak out against Trump’s nuclear bullshittery, don’t bleat “we’re all going to die.” Yell “no atrocities in our name.”

I wish that anti-bullying campaigns would stop arguing that “anyone can be bullied”/that “it’s completely random who the bullying victim is” cause it’s usually not just “anyone” who’s being bullied - it’s the disabled kids, the neurodivergent kids, the kids of color, the fat kids, the mentally ill kids, the poor kids, the transgender kids, the gender nonconforming kids, the non-straight kids. We won’t get anywhere with stopping bullying if we don’t confront the underlying reasons cause it’s no accident that it’s the kids belonging to marginalized groups who ends up being bullying victims. Bullying is not just a “random” evil it’s an expression of the ableism, racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, fatphobia and transhobia in our society and it’s about time that we confront that in our anti-bullying campaigns.

IF people acknowledge it, they play the necessity card– there weren’t any women out on the range, so they had to “resort to men.” this claim completely erases 1) the romantic (not just sexual) writings of actual cowboys, 2) the acknowledgement of cowboys’ potential homosexual activity by writers at the time, and 3) the possibility that some men would deliberately become cowboys with the intent to seek out homosexual encounters.

no one wants to admit it, but cowboy culture was just. so inherently gay.

i’ll never forget when a woman on bill maher’s show (i think it was mona eltahawy or gloria) that mentioned how in islam the financier of the spreading of islam was actually Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) wife hazrat Khadija (AS). and maher looked to the audience and he was like 

“ohhhh really??? well i’ll just have to confirm that myself” looking to the audience who was laughing with him with an expression like “yeah right that’s true!! as if islam!! could do that!!” 

and like. it was so embarrassing for me to watch because maher, alongside his audience of young white “enlightened” men were so CONFIDENT that such a simple and basic and Level 1 fact that basically everyone knows to be true couldn’t ever exist. 

and that’s bill maher’s audience in a nutshell: people who have this huge, ugly, total superiority complex about social issues but are 100% uninformed about anything they say. 

Like basically anyone who knows even a smidge about islam knows it was the Prophet’s wife who first propagated the religion and that she was an incredibly successful and independent business woman. but bill maher, who white atheists look to as a source LMAO, isn’t even aware of this kindergarten level fact. 

this man knows nothing. is an expert on nothing. he is simply a balding racist transphobic sexist pro-israel subpar comedian who simply says he’s “pro social justice” but actually has no clue. that’s all it is lmao.

If you’ve paid attention to the way racist/generally bigoted white people have talked literally since the dawn of time, this wouldn’t be a surprise to you, but I like the way OT phrased it.

But really people often talk like this when they want to say horrible things about other human beings they know they shouldn’t be saying, it’s just with Trump it suddenly matters can’t he’s flushing our country down the toilet.

See: the way white people have always talked about the mysterious inner city and the infamous black on black crime. Or just black women in general. There are always unfinished sentences about black people/POC and ya’ll never have trouble completely them in your own heads.
