matcha originated in China about 1200 years ago, aรงaรญ has been consumed by Indigenous communities in the Amazon for centuries, and Dubai chocolate was invented by combining chocolate with knafeh, an 1100 year old SWANA snack.
western (usually white but seemingly not in this case) people love to call nonwhite foods suddenly becoming popular in western mainstream culture "industry plants" as if they haven't always existed.
this is orientalism.
There is a legitimate point being made though. The sudden popularity of Dubai chocolate did NOT happen organically, it's been actively promoted and funded and subsidized as an act of economic warfare against Iran, who was formerly the world's largest supplier of pistachios, but is no longer due to the opening salvo of the aforementioned economic warfare which started with Reagan (shocker) heavily subsidizing California farmers to grow pistachios in response to the 1979 revolution.
Sure, maybe sometimes it is just orientalism, and fads do come and go all the time, but it's not stupid to ask if there's an agenda behind a social media blitz.
