I’ll have it so you don’t know, I’m nothing but a mean foe.
"If one more person asks where I’ve been these past few weeks.. I swear, I will not be responsible for my actions.”
“—- I get it! You don’t have paper. I just gave you paper! Stop beeping at me!”
Anabel lifted her hand to the corner of her eye only to find a tear slowly making its way down her cheek. She took a deep breath and looked around to see if anyone was watching her. “For fucks sake..” She whispered under her breath. She didn’t want to cry in school. Not now.
“Well if it isn’t baby Ashbury doing what she does best..” Sydney mused, approaching the brunette from behind. “Seems some things didn’t change in my absence.”
The Edge || Open Para
Dawn.
Another grey dawn, just like the last.
The world was like that, wasn’t it? Just a sea of grey. One grey day after the next.
Most of the Haven was still asleep, but not Nikolai. The Precog very rarely slept, and for good reason. But that did not matter now, not now as the teen’s glacial gaze was so distant and so empty as his bare feet stepped onto the ledge …
Sydney heard him before she saw him, his mind a consistent swirl of images that forced the blonde to concentrate even if she wanted to stand a chance at being able to understand the mess that was his mind.
Before she could even contemplate her decisions she forced herself into a jog, towards the elevator. Minutes passed by ever so slowly, and for once she actually felt the steady thrum of impatience wash over her. As the doors opened she barged out, not caring for those that stood in her way. Making her way down the hall she jogged the last few stairs to the roof before forcing open the irritatingly creaky door.
“And just what do you think you’re doing Volkova?” She spoke out, her words touching his mind as she stepped out into the early morning breeze. “I’m always one for a good game but this-- this is next level.”
“I know what you’re thinking, but I don’t need it, okay? I know I can’t hide forever, but I sure as hell wish I could.”
“Actually you don’t. You’re fire fingers and I’m the telepath, remember? But colour me intrigued, just what are you hiding..”
When the fires, when the fires have surrounded you, with the hounds of Hell coming after you, I’ve got blood, I’ve got blood on my name.
"Interesting approach, and a similar one I implement myself - after all people have so much they don’t share there’s a lot to learn by studying them," he agreed. During the few times he had spoken to her he hadn’t actually inquired to her power so he felt it decent practise at least to ask. The sudden voice in his head earned her a look of amusement though a hint of surprise though nothing excessive. "Well isn’t that an impressive party trick." And another hurdle to overcome, with a slight tilt of his head he regarded her for a short time before he returned to reading another file sliding the prior aside. "Ever found someone you can’t read? Besides people who have powers like shields?" He wasn’t entirely bothered by her voice ringing about in his head considering that one stage of his training as a child had involved working with telepaths to learn how to deceive them - lying after all was a skill which involved both physical and mental manipulation.
Sydney simply shrugged at his reply, "Great minds think alike I suppose. And exactly, like yourself for instance. You hide yourself away down here, and then venture off campus to the bar after hours for a few rounds and some pool. One might think you too have something to hide, but alas the alcohol gives you the added advantage. Enabling you to simply blend in all the while with your mask intact. Rather befitting of a actor, don't you think." The blonde paused, studying him a moment. He was an interesting subject, keeping his cards so close to his chest was certainly suspicious. But whatever it was he was hiding behind those walls, she would find it. Eventually. The telepath couldn't help but chuckle at his words. "You have no idea. It's so much more than just a party trick." She smirked, narrowing her eyes as her lips remained still. "I know for instance, you pine for that which you cannot have. A large home with a white picket fence, a family maybe even a dog. And more importantly you long for a child. But best of all, I know a rebel when I see one."
"Right. Regardless… How are you, Sydney?"
"Just peachy. And you red?"
"Wow… It’s um really pretty…"
"Hmm. I suppose so."
"I think some people are forgetting that St Valentine is also the patron saint of beekeepers, plagues and epilepsy not just love and happy marriages."
"You don’t know me, Lunsford. An innocent party? She’s as innocent as fucking Lucifer.”
"See now that's where you're wrong. Must be hard never having your facts straight. I know you better than you know yourself, much alike many naive others around here. Don't make me laugh. Martin may let her mouth run, but she's as innocent as it comes. You seem to be confusing her with myself, I'm as innocent as Lucifer himself and proud of it."
Forgive me father for I have

I have left bodies bruised and broken

But my biggest sin, the cherry on top is…
that I don’t care
whether you or god or anyone else
forgives me at all
