Florentine School ~ 17th Century
What is civilization? What is it founded on, and when should and could we think of true and effective civilization? Civilization is the social order capable of fostering the creation of culture. The fundamental elements are: economic foresight, political organization, remaining firm in one's moral traditions, and the pursuit of knowledge and the arts. It begins where chaos and uncertainty end. Only when fear and chaos are overcome that curiosity and creativity are unleashed and man naturally moves toward knowledge and the embellishment of life.
Still life with Sculpture, Anonymous. 1640.
