Teddy babbled, using the few words she had learned in sentences that made no sense, Ala of course responded as though she understood, encouraging the one and a half year old to keep using her voice to aid her development, something she had been told by one of the older mothers at her support group. She brought Teddy over towards the door when she noticed Dustin didn't follow her in, hoping his seeming hesitation wasn't due to her being a young mother, she knew people had a tendency to judge and she had hoped this young man would become a friend as Eddie had spoke so fondly of him. Theodora was wearing a little sleep suit that looked like a tadpole.

"Look Teddy, this is Dustin, apparently he likes stories so maybe he'll tell us one some time," she decided to say as she bounced Teddy in her arms, hoping Dustin would take what she said as a way of her saying she would like to spend more time with him. "Dustin this is Theodora. Could you bring my skates in for me?"

While standing at the doorway, he couldn't help but lean forward a smidge for a curious look inside the house. The way people set up and decorated their spaces told a lot about them. Though just from his observations of her around town and the trailer park, Dustin was fond already, and wanted to get to know her. Half listening to Ala conversing with her baby, he kept his lips clamped in a thin line to cover the excitement of finally getting that chance.

Then he heard his name, and his attention bounced straight to the two with a side of wide eyes. Still sucking his lips inward which made his expression all the more ridiculous. It dropped to something more natural, likely not soon enough for either Ala or little Teddy to catch. Dustin smiled at Theodora and gave her a wave. "Nice to meetchya, lil' tadpole! Is it Teddy or Theodora?"

Looking up at Ala then nodding with a quick, "Yeah! Yeah," Dustin turned to do as she requested of him. It gave him a moment in the quiet to process what he's learning about his crush. Not a long enough one to decide whether he was ready to be a proper caretaker to a partner's kid, but long enough that the surprise drop of information (maybe it shouldn't have been such a surprise?) wasn't as flooring.

"Here-- where d'you uh, where d'you want me to put them?" Crossing the threshold into Ala's home at last, he slightly lifted the skates.

Go build another nuclear-powered treehouse in the woods or something.” Not to point out the first one had not worked as planned; Elie didn’t need to know that. “I bet I could handle the book better’n either of you.” Not to point out that he’d tried to several times already, and could never get past the first encounter with the topiary animals.

The little brother jut out his jaw and his posture ruffled up like a disgruntled penguin. “So I don’t need to kick his ass? I mean, I kinda do anyway, he owes me $2.50 now and he still insists he already paid me back.”

“You never know! My taste buds mighta changed their minds; you know you can develop new tastes and even like, allergies ‘cos of how the cells change and replace over time, so like, one of these days I might hate tomatoes.”

“But yeah, thanks Elie.”

times like this is when elie is really glad she never let her mother’s mistreatment effect her relationship with her younger brother. the two full of sarcastic and wild banter. “another? when did you build the first one?” she chuckles and raised a brow. “do we really want to make that bet? i could use a good competition.”

elie shook her head. “no ass kicking needed. keith is….well keith.” that’s the nicest way she could go about it. keith wasn’t a bad guy per say, just thought if he used enough pick up lines that elie might give him a chance. she was not but whatever. “although, i think you should kick his ass for your money back.” she laughed. “i’d honestly pay to watch that one go down.”

“sometimes, i swear you’re an alien. totally from another planet.” she laughed. “come on, let’s get food, i’m starved.”

"I'm not telling you where my secret bases are," Dustin scolded with a wry smirk. Then he pointed a finger at Elie, already having accepted the challenge, "Whoever finishes it last or gives up reading first owes the other two snacks." Somehow he was certain he'd be getting Elie and Will those snacks in the painfully near future.

He nodded his head side to side with a scrunched nose. "That's a good way of putting it. There should be a 'Keith' section in the dictionary and thesaurus." In all honesty Dustin wasn't supremely fond of the guy, though most of the time he just found him annoying at worst. But he didn't take kindly to people harassing his sister. There was a list.

"Pay me how much he owes, I'll beat him up and consider the debt repaid," he agreed, though frankly he'd prefer both to be paid to fight Keith and get his owed money back. More pop and writing utensils for him. With a snort he lightly jabbed at Eli's shoulder. "I am not an alien! I'm a highly sophisticated artificial life form made specifically to pester you. But let's go get that grub so you don't get grouchy. Is there a term for when your being hungry makes you get all crabby?"

Samuel made his way over to the stall in question, "I don't think burnin' would help, if it is some sort of fungus then perhaps burnin' would trigger some sort of toxin release." He offered, thinking on his feet and using his experience with actual plant life to his advantage.

His eyes left the boy and locked onto the flowers, they looked...like some sort of flesh and gore, he certainly didn't want to touch that. He slid into the stall, avoiding the vines until he was in there, "mm no eggs...what's this?" He spoke to himself, though in reality he was making sure Dustin could hear him before he touched a small vine by his foot, gently running gloved fingers over it.

"If it's that bad it's probably already toxic as hell in here," Dustin debated, though as far as he knew or cared it wasn't that bad. Maybe a little mildewy. Of course the farmer had a good point-- but still the thought of burning whatever was spawning in this barn stuck in his head. And he didn't like that. At the same time, he desperately did.

But while resting in the hay, he began to feel worse. Anxious, wary. Like someone was creeping up from behind him with a knife. Or a lit torch. As Samuel ventured into the stall, the bleeding flowers turned his way slowly, watching with toothy mouths. Salivating. The vines and roots groaned against their grips and emitted low, crackling sounds like quiet growls.

The vine lurched away from the gentle touch with piercing hiss. From the haystack Dustin cursed under his breath and scratched at the side of his hand and forearm. "What's what?" he asked irritably.

Blind unicorn, dragons are loud even when they can tell what volume they're screeching at, if i had a deaf dragon I'd be even more deaf pretty soon. Then again unicorns got them pokey sticks on their heads... if magic horsey boo can't see where they're going imma have to be major careful... can i just start a magical creature rehabilitation sanctuary? XD
